Hello everyone and thank you Anglea,

Your message was really interesting and helpful and came at a good

moment for me.

Some of you may remember that I was considering a TP last autumn but

that the surgery was shelved as I began to respond well to the

enzyme therapy.

I had an appointment at the clinic yeaterday. Unfortunately " my "

Professor was in theatre and I saw another Prof, also part of the

pancreatic team but I hadn't seen him before. He was very nice to

me. He has ordered an EUS as I expected. The TP was mentioned last

year because I have hereditary pancreatitis and 40% of HP cases will

be malignant by the time the patient is 70. I am 58. The Prof I saw

yesterday suggested that I definitely should have a TP as part of

my " life-plan " , possibly for when I retire in a year or two.

So now I have had three different opinions :

(1) Gastroenterologist (physician not surgeon): Leave " well " alone.

While you are managing the condition well, don't have it done. Huge

operation, not always straightforward afterwards, could regret it if

feeling OK now. We all run risks of different kinds.

(2) " My " Prof (the big pancreatic expert and surgeon) : Willing to

do it because of the very high cancer risk but will not make an

actual " recommendation " that I have it done. Says he is not God (is

that a change for a big doc?!) and cannot look into the future. Has

given me heaps of info of the best possible kind, lots of time,

medical articles etc.

(3) Yesterday's Prof (surgeon): Yes, you should have it done over

the next couple of years because of the very high cancer risk.

??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice easy decision to make?!

With congratulations to you, , and my very good wishes to you

all.

Fliss (UK)
