Guest guest
If anyone is interested in this article and is having trouble tracking it down, let me know. These are my daughter's doctors, I'm sure they have copies of it. Mom to Ellie, almost one year old! wCF and Jack 3yrs noCF Article re: Young Children and Pa -The exact title of the article is " Pseudomonas acquisition in young patients with Cystic Fibrosis " from the Journal called CURRENT OPINION IN PULMONARY MEDICINE 9: 492-497, 2003 Author Margaret Rosenfeld, Bonnie Ramsey and L Gibson I can't type in the whole thing but the summary says: Chronic lower airway Pa infection is associated with significant morbidity and mortality among CF patients. However, first acquisition of Pa does not appear to cause an immediate and rapid decline in lung function. Early Pa isolates non-mucoid, antibiotic sensitive and present at low density suggesting a possible " window of opportunity " for early intervention. Anti-pseudomonal therapy for early infection results in transient Pa eradication, be in-infection with Pa appears inevitable despite early aggressive treatment. There are no controlled trials demonstrating clinical benefit in young children. There is a critical need for further investigation of the clinical outcomes associated with early intervention, the long term safety profile and the optimal drug regime. I couldn't get a copy online but I got a photocopy from the librarian at our Children's Hospital. She would do this for anyone staff or family. Guest guest
I have been in the IICU for about 18mo here in Seattle and I actually think I do remember when Ellie was born, because I keep an eye out for mec. ileus babies since they are dear to my heart. But since dealing with the mec ileus alone is so huge I don't usually say anything about my son to the parents unless they understand the diagnosis of CF already because it is a huge one. I see doctor Gibson but I have also seen Dr Ramsey and they are both considered " the best " . So our babies are in good hands. I'm glad to hear she is doing well. Guest guest
---Hi I am in Walla Walla, my daughter Amber 15 w/ cf see's her doctor here and see's Dr. McCarthy over in Spokane. She has also seen Dr. Ramsey a few times when she was first diagnosed 3 yrs ago. It is nice to see other people from this area here. Amy, do you know of any support groups over in the Tri-Cities?
