Guest guest
That I don't know since iel is able to handle cow dairy just fine. If you are concerned, I guess you would want to hold off. You could start with goat yogurt or goat cheese instead. We did no dairy to start with since we'd never taken it away from iel. He tested negative for an allergy to both goat and cow dairy, but many asd kids do. We removed dairy all together for about six weeks. We didn't see any of the significant and dramatic changes that many see when dairy is removed(normal eye contact, pointing, ect.). After six weeks, I introduced goat yogurt, and we saw no negative affects from that. After a month of goat, I gave cow a try simply because it was so much less expensive even if I went organic with the milk for making yogurt. we again saw no changes, and so we've stayed with it. All that to say, you could just omit dairy if you know that someone in the family can't tolerate it. We used a calcium powder from Kirkman Labs that is scd legal while we were dairy free. I just mixed it into applesauce, juice, ect. It is a bit chalky, but iel would take it in something anyway. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Michele, Since the DCCC is almost 100% lactose free, many do not have a problem with it who are intolerant to dairy before SCDiet. AS with any new food, only try it without any other new foods, so if you have a problem with it, it is obvious. We came to SCDiet grain free and casein free. Luckily we have not have problems with the SCD allowed dairy. It is nice to be able to enjoy the SCd yogurt and allowed cheeses, after eating so limited for so long. I truly think that it was because of the remaining lactose in liquid milk, store bought yogurts and icecream that made us so sick. I say go for it! Elaine's cheese cake is one of our favorites. We also put blended DCCC into our yogurt smothies to make them packed full of more calories. Just Peeping in....hope this helps, Sincerely, Antoinette (celiac/IBS) mom to three (cd/colitis/adhd/asd/hyperekplexia) scd 2/
