I would certainly go to your doctor with this information, and ask him to refer you to rheumatologist. Whether or not rp is inherited is not really known, but there is pronanly some genetic factor. Also there is no rheumatoid factor in rp, as opposed to RA, so nothing would show. Try and ask them to check your ESR (sedimentation rate) when your ears are hot and painful. Although not every one has a high esr either . RP is quite difficult to diagnose, there is not a specific test, but if you see a rheumatologist who knows about rp, he would be able to either confirm it or set your mind at ease. The voice thing would make me suspicious, mind you, that was one of mysymptoms. Mine is pretty much ok now.
