Guest guest
Now, I'm not exactly sure what constitutes a night shade plant. I do know that tomato and eggplant are in that category. You can try searching on ggole, but I seem to remember still not being able to figure it out when I did that in the spring. We were using a diet that prohibitted night shade plant consumption, but night shades in general are not prohibitted on scd. There may be some that are, but I don't know which illegal vegies are night shades. Is there some certain reason that you are wanting to avoid them because scd doesn't prohibit them. Guest guest
The nightshade plants are tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and eggplant. Potatoes are obviously illegal on SCD, but not because they're in the nightshade family. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant are SCD legal. Some people have sensitivities to the naturally occurring toxins in these related plants, and can't eat any of them at all. There is a weed-type wild plant that is called " Deadly Nightshade " ... which is extremely toxic... not to be eaten... ever. Guest guest
>I avoid them most of the time. They can cause arthritic problems and fibromyalgia symptoms as well as headaches and fatigue. Nightshade plants are tomato, potato (not legal), peppers (not black pepper) tobacco and eggplant. Now that I have been on SCD for a while I can tolerate tomatos much better than before. I use to have headahces for days on end until I figured this out. I still have to be careful but it is nice to be able to eat tomatoes again! Guest guest
Thanks Patty, we are already eating tomatoes, eggplant and peppers so I gather she is not sensitive to those. Again I appreciate your help. Anyas family
