Guest guest
I'm working my way through a book by Dr. L. Blaylock, M.D. called *Health and Nutrition Secrets That Can Save Your Life* and came across an interesting passage: " In the developing baby's brain, specialized processes called growth cones exist on the tips of the newly-created and always-probing nerve fibers. These growth cones act as beacons, guiding the nerve fibers to their final destinations. How they do that is also unknown. The growth cones are very sensitive to the mother's nutrition during the baby's intrauterine life and to the child's nutrition after birth. As we shall see, an excess of certain food additives can severely affect the growth cone function. " He goes on to write " The first book I wrote, *Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills " told of a group of food additives, such as MSG and aspartame, that in my opinion, and based on numerous scientific studies, pose a serious danger to our neurological health. One of the driving forces that compelled me to write the book was my anger at what the food-processing industry had done to, and continues to do to, all of us---but especially to our children. At the time I had two young children of my own. Fortunately, I discovered the serious danger imposed by such food additives in time to save my children from a life of misery. I felt I owed the same to other parents and their children. Christ told us to protect the children from evil. This was one form of that evil. " Since his Excitotoxin work, Blaylock has added Carrageenan to the list of excitotoxins. You see that listed as a food additive everywhere as well -- I found it in the fluoride-free toothpaste my kids had been using (we've now switched). Blaylock feels that our taste buds are so warped from processed food that eating fresh and cooked fruits and vegetables is a real task. He suggests fighting against the food industry and their pollution of our food by avoiding anything prepackaged or prepared for us and cooking our own foods at home. He says that it takes time to reprogram tastebuds to enjoy wholesome foods again, but as a nation filled with sick children and a getting-sicker-by-the-year adult population, this is our best way to preserve our health, protect our future and fight back against the food-additive industry. Interesting book. Just thought I'd share his thoughts. Once you have been on SCD fpor a while and have the misfortune to taste conventional foods (as I have after six years on SCD) you will appreciate the delicious flavors of unsadulterated food.
