, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I'm sure being closer to

you will help.

My flares are always worse in May. I have never had allergies, until this

year. I wonder if I had them and didn't know it yet. LOL My doctors don't

say much about the connection either.

What is the new allergy drug you are taking?

Please let us know how you are more often. It is always so good to hear from

you.

hugs

claudia

Sharon, I hope you feel better really soon, When I

was first diagnosed the very frst time I went to see

the rheumatologist he said he would like to put me on

methotrexate. He said he had a couple of patients on

Imuran that were not responding and he would like to

try the mtx. Well, I wnt home and read up about it

and got very nervous. I rang my rheumy and he

explained that methotrexate is prednisone sparing. As

I was ALREADY worried about pred, I thought, OK. The

important thing with mtx is to have your liver

function tests regularly.

I started on 7.5 per week and gradually increased to

17.5, which I am still on. I have no problems, apart

from occasional nausea the day after, but if I drink a

lot of water and eat low fat this does not occur. I

drink a lot of water BEFORE I take it as well as

after. The first year on methotrexate I was pred

free, now I am on 5mg a day (in medical terms this is

nothing, my doc informs me!!! I also now take 200

plaquenil daily. (This is for the rp)

It is also important not to take alcohol when you are

on mtx, as the main possible complication is liver

damage. I think sometimes we worry too much about the

bad effects of medication rather than the bad effects

of rp. Do what your doc suggests, only start one new

med at a time and keep a diary of how you feel. If it

does not suit you talk to your doctor and explain to

him. Mtx does sometimes take up to three months to

have an effect (for me it started working fairly

quickly!!)

I am in sympathy with your eye problems' since 3rd of

July I have been having what I think are dry eye

symptoms, (painful, gritty feelings, especially at

night.) I have been using Celluvisc which seems to

help, but I am calling the opthalmologist on Monday!!

I do hope yours improves quickly.

I am sure you are in pain from the surgery. Every

time I have had surgery I have spent several days

muttering to myself - why did I do that, its worse

than before etc etc - however I am sure you will feel

the benefits in due course, the swelling and bruising

will go down, you will no longer feel like a monster

when you look in the mirror, but this all takes

time....also I think anasthesia makes you feel bad for

quite some time. So hang in there Sharon and believe

you will feel better. You are still in my prayers.

Love Liz
