Guest guest
, I'm glad you've seen at least some progress. Keep in mind that this road to healing does have it's ups and downs... it's not just a steady incline to the top of the mountain. Everyone sees some days when they seem to be slipping back. We're here to encourage you not to despair. It's " normal " (I hate that word, so I always put it in quotes). Don't know what kind of squash you're using. Butternuts is my favorite... smooth, fine-textured, well-tolerated by my daughter. I don't see why you couldn't cautiously try a little peeled, seeded, cooked zucchini if he's tolerating other squash. Green beans would be my next suggestion. Use the " french cut " ... well cooked, and maybe even pureed and mixed with mashed squash to start with. Try a small amount, then wait and see. You're not using any nut butters? Is there a reason why not? Who is giving you the " tons of pressure " ? The doctor? Or your son's mother? Whoever it is does not seem to have a full understanding of how SCD works. It takes longer than five weeks. Adding a supplement of magnesium would improve the constipation, though I see that Carol has already given you the link to Elaine's constipation protocol. Try the magnesium also, if that doesn't do the trick. Mag citrate works for my daughter. Mag oxide is also pretty laxative, but I think the citrate is absorbed better. My daughter is 10, and 69 lbs... and I give her 400 mgs daily. If this were my child, I would INSIST that chelation be put off for a while, until he had more gut healing behind him. If you have not yet read it, I could forward a post about how SCD itself helps chelate heavy metals... and how a healed, healthy gut is critical to supporting successful chelation. You are going to have to be patient on the stool thing... you may see them going back and forth for a while. We would ALL like to see only good formed stools every single day, with no undigested bits, but this early in the diet you just have to be realistic and know that you'll have these ups and downs for a while. Patti Adding new foods Hello friends - I'm having trouble finding the right balance in determining what to feed my son. We've been SCD for about five weeks. After two weeks we saw our first completely normal stool; alongside significant improvements in my son's behavior, social awareness, and motor skills. We are on a very basic diet of bananas, cooked pears and squash, eggs, and protein. However, he was severely constipated, going every four of five days. We know it was hurting him to finally go. Also, our doctor is recommending that he be going normally each day if we would like to begin chelation. To try to get him to a more regular state, we've been giving him small amounts of prune juice. We've also been pushing in a little vitamin C, which has been known to give him diarheah in the past. However, now we see whole food in his stool, and the consistency has reverted to more or less what it looked like before SCD. What's more, I'm getting a ton of pressure to add to the variety of foods my son eats. I'm kind of torn; our son doesn't have the ability to tell us if he is feeling better or worse; the one mechanism we could count on to give us an indicator as to his gut health was his stools. I'm afraid to add new foods to his diet; if we start on something new that his gut disagrees with we may not be able to notice the difference in his stool and may find ourselves wondering if we've hit another wall with him; or we're giving him enough carbs so that he stops progressing. On the other hand, I can't keep him on his current diet forever, or even very long. Eventually his mother will start giving him new foods whether I am on board or not. Any advice on getting from good constipated stools to good frequent stools is greatly appreciated. - brian __________________________________________________

For some people when the body starts having solid stool (whether for the first time or after a long time) it hurts because the stool is larger than it has been and is solid. Some vaseline or zinc oxide cream on his bottom may help. > Also, our doctor is recommending that > he be going normally each day if we would > like to begin chelation. If your son has yeast issues you 'may' get better results using nut goods than prune juice to help with the constipation. What kind of vitamin C are you using?
