Giovanni,

I certainly didn't mean to confuse you, or contradict what your doctor has

prescribed for

you. My message to Cyndi was that it had just been my personal experience that

Dilaudid

in oral form was not helpful in handling my pain and use of it caused such

extreme

hallucinations that I was forced to stop taking it. My doctor said that was

just as well, as

he preferred to keep it as an acute hospital IV med instead. They usually

prefer to use a

different med for acute hospital conditions than one that is prescribed for

daily home use.

Certainly if Dilaudid is the only pain medication that you've tried that's been

effective in

handling your pain, it would be appropriate for you to take it. I was only

trying to explain

that there are many other short-acting medications available, such as

oxycondone,

oxycontin IR, morphine, etc., that could also be used. Each med affects each

individual in

a different manner, and the patient should take whichever one that works best

for him that

carries the least amount of side effects. I am grateful that my Pain Management

doctor

tried me on nearly all the available meds, doing a three to four week trial for

each, before

we settled on the combination that works best for me. In my case it's the 75

mg.

duragesic with oxycodone 15 mg. for breakthrough, along with 900 mg. of

Neurontin each

day. This combination works well for me, yet it may not work as well for

another.

If the combination of 8 mgs. Dilaudid and a 100 mg. duragesic patch works well

for you,

then, by all means, that's great! The key is finding the right combination that

will do the

best job for your individual pain needs.

Did you see my earlier post addressed to you concerning your weight loss and

increased

pain?

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
