Guest guest
, My comments are interspersed among your questions. > I'm getting the feeling that this GI (the 2nd one now) is giving me the heave/ho to someone in Boston because the LEVELS aren't up? Could this still be my problem? Could that much destruction be done in 4 months time that the levels aren't going up anymore?< It is common for the amylase and lipase levels to return to normal readings within a few days after an acute attack. They usually don't elevate again unless there is acute inflamation, though the pain is chronic and can continue without enzyme elevation. >I put in a call and said if he doesn't think the pancreas is involved, should I stop the enzymes?< The enzymes are essential if there has been any pancreatic damage. I wouldn't suggest that you stop taking them at this point. It still hasn't been proven that there isn't any pancreatic damage. This doctor could be wrong. Damage could explain why you are continuing to have pain and weakness. It may be a good thing that this doctor has referred you to another who may be more experienced and more understanding of your situation. As suggested earlier, a liquid diet would be beneficial at this point if the pain levels are intolerable. You need to address these pain issues with a doctor, and request that appropriate pain medication be prescribed. Make sure that you mention this pain with any doctor that you should speak with, until medication is discussed and recommended. The continuance of enzyme supplements should also help with any after-meal/snack pain. Don't be discouraged that you are being sent to another doctor, often times it takes reveiw by several different specialists before you can find the right one who has enough experience and knowledge with pancreatic issues to treat you aggressively, and to know which tests need to be done to determine a definitive diagnosis. I hope this information is helpful, please post again with your questions. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep.
