Guest guest
Audrey, I did hear about another family who had that reaction. Both boys had runny noses with the yogurt but made significant gains in cognition. One of the boys came close to a recovery from autism after doing the yogurt . However, the runny nose never stopped until the mother stopped the yogurt..... Let us hope that your son's runny nose will heal more quickly. Another strategy would be to lower the dose of the yogurt. Guest guest
Hmmmm..... I don't know. I'd run him in for a quick checkup if this were my kid. I am wary of green snot.... that can indicate an infection. Maybe sinus or ears? I mean, yes.... this could be part and parcel of die-off, but there could also be something kinda secondary going on. Well, to be honest, the very FIRST thing I would do (b/c I want to avoid antibiotics at ALL costs) would be nasal irrigation with warm salt water. I know not every kid will tolerate this, but Katera lets me do it when she's all stuffed up, believe it or not. Everyone else who's not interested in un-stuffing a stuffy nose can just delete this message now. ... Make sure all utensils are clean. Use 1/4 tsp of plain kosher (non-iodized) salt.... and 1 cup of filtered or spring water. I warm the water up first in the microwave for however long it takes to get to just above lukewarm.... you want COMFORT warm. Then I add the salt and stir till dissolved. Using a rubber bulb syringe (at our house, it's called the " snot sucker " LOL). You are going to flush his nose by gently flushing the salt water in through one nostril and it will run out the other.... along with a lot of yucky stuff that you DON'T want in there. I do this in the bathtub, usually..... but make sure you're just about to get them out, b/c you won't want them sitting or bathing in this water after! I just have her lean forward slightly and flush the bulb full of salt water upwards into one nostril.... not with incredibly forceful pressure, but you do want it to get clear up in there.... so enough pressure to keep a firm, steady stream. Katera has learned not to inhale at the same time (and she is very delayed, but this seems to be pretty instinctive for her). It's really very quick... but if your child would not be able to do this without breathing in, you can also do it laying down. This takes TWO adults, sometimes. You want the child on their side, with a large bath towell, folded several times, under their head. You will flush a full bulb's worth of the warm salt water in through the nostril that's on TOP..... and it will run right out through the bottom one. Then you need to turn them over and flush the other side..... always in through the top nostril. When both sides are done, you can suction a little bit of the excess away... but it usually doesn't take much. This is the BEST way to clear a stuffed up nose or help relieve a sinus infection. I do this myself for sinus problems.... only I use a Neti pot and lean over a sink (you can Google instructions and explanations on how to use Neti pots.... there's even a good Wikipedia article about them) . I hope this helps... Patti Could it be bacterial die-off? Tomorrow will be the first full week that Liam has had the goat's milk yogurt (we are now up to about a tablespoon per day and we use the charcoal as well). Shortly after we began he started demonstrating a very runny nose and the mucous is often green. His runny nose (and I mean pretty constant) has continued for almost a week now. Interestingly, no one else in the family has gotten the same. I can't help but think that this is due to bacterial die-off--particularly since the mucuous is green--and I have read that " stuffiness " is a common die-off reaction. (Liam's HPHPA bacterial levels were literally 10x what is normal so I imagine this will take awhile.) Has anyone else had this symptom after starting the yogurt? (He continues to make behavioral and food-selection gains.) In others' experience, is bacterial die-off any different from yeast die-off? This is our sixth week on Nystatin and SCD so I can't imagine it's still yeast die-off? Thank you, Audrey Mom to Liam 2.9 y.o. Guest guest
Thanks for reminding me of this. I'm battling a nasty cold, and I've hardly been able to breathe all day. In fact, a doctor friend of ours had told me that everyone really should do this when all stuffed up to prevent the cold turning into a sinus infection or what have you. Guest guest
My son seems to have a runny nose with the goat yogurt too. He has no green snot but he does have the runny nose. I think perhaps he's eating too much per day and that I need to limit it to 2 cups instead of 1 quart! He's hard to deal with when it comes to the yogurt, that's all he wants to eat! Oh, plus, (kinda gross) but his poo is all white-ish looking and it has a foul smell...?? > > Thanks for reminding me of this.
