Guest guest
Hi, This may be a dumb question, but --- how do you feel about your weightloss? I had lost only 16 pounds at 5 weeks and have not weighed since because I am so disappointed. I fear that this is not going to work for me. I just think of all the money (I was self-pay) and fear and risk --- all for nothing? Sherry in NC
Guest guest
Sherry- I'm sorry for your setback. That HAS TO BE disappointing. You said you were self pay...how did that work? All at once? Installments? Prepay? Because I may have to selfpay, too Regina in Charlotte
Guest guest
This is so hard to believe. Sherry would you mind listing exactly what you are eating????? Are you exercising?? If your stomach only holds 4 ounces, how on earth would you not lose more weight than you say unless you are eating some of the wrong foods!!???? I've lost almost 100 lbs since Jan 10, 2000 and I have not starved myself either. But I don't eat sweets, or drink pop or coffee or tea. I don't eat greasy foods. I use sugar free jello and make wonderful veggie salads that have low fat cottage cheese in them. Would be glad to post the recipe if you are interested. I use the fat free cream cheese and fat free sour cream on baked potatoes. I eat chicken salad sandwiches and use the fat free mayonaise and the Kraft fat free mayonaise is delicious. Vegetables sauted in olive oil are wonderful and you can get fat free Parmesean. I am just trying to help. in Missouri
Guest guest
Hi Sherry: It appears that you are a member of an ever-growing (pardon the pun) group of folks who are experiencing a predictably low weight loss given the operation you've had. I'm now being contacted privately by others. I'm sorry that this experimental procedure is not having the results you were promised. Please don't blame yourself....this is not a " fault-based " problem with the patient, no matter what you may be told.... Guest guest
Yes that is what I am saying? I think?? If a person has the MGB and then still eats rich foods every hour on the hour or even less, then they will not lose very much weight. A type of cleansing takes place after surgery if you leave alone the foods that we all know that we shouldn't have. Also with a little exercise your metabolism is going to change for the better. I am no expert but I do read a lot. Everyone loses at a different rate though, for some it is fast and others not fast at all.
Guest guest
Mr. Lindstrom, I am a preop. patient of Dr. Rutledge. I read your post and I would appreciate you providing me the information regarding the evidence that this procedure vs the RNY is unsafe and not effective. I would like to consider this prior to my surgery. I await your prompt reply. Guest guest
, I have a question. Could you be saying that weight gain may be stopped and some weight lost but if a person does not help a little by changing some of the foods they eat they might be at fault for stagnating the weight loss function. Bypassing the bypass so to speak. Las Vegas, NV preop Self-Pay 290 Deckbound@... wrote: > This is so hard to believe. Sherry would you mind listing exactly what you > are eating????? Guest guest
I am certain you are aware of 's website which includes her problems. That is one anecdotal source. The other source I can readily point you to is www.mini-gastricbypass.com, which contains some very good and important information. You can also get a second opinion from some very fine doctors in your area who may be able to explain this procedure and its possible complications first hand. Good luck. Guest guest
, I personally believe that if I want to lose this weight yes I will have to change what I eat in addition to how much. Let's face it - if I am still putting mostly fat, carbs and sugar into my body it will react to it accordingly. Just my humble opinion. on Surgery data 10/04/00 -- In MiniGastricBypass (AT) egroups (DOT) com, Des <deslv@u...> wrote: > , > > I have a question. > > Could you be saying that weight gain may be stopped and some weight lost but if a > person does not help a little by changing some of the foods they eat they might > be at fault for stagnating the weight loss function. > > Bypassing the bypass so to speak. > > > Las Vegas, NV > preop > Self-Pay > 290 > > > Deckbound@a... wrote: > > > This is so hard to believe. Guest guest
Hi, Sorry it has taken so long to respond. I am having trouble with my modem - so my husband (a computer language developer) fixed it, and now it doesn't work at all! I've resorted to stealing time on my daughter's computer. As far as self-pay - It was $3200 to Dr. R. before the surgery and $7000 to Surgical Center the morning of surgery. they promptly billed us for the rest (more for anesthesia because my surgery took 82 monutes and $400 more to Dr. R.). Good luck. sherry
Guest guest
Dear Elixabeth, What are the wrong foods? I am not being dense, just wondering that if this surgery is supposed to work by maladsorption and the so-called wrong foods (I assume you mean fatty and sugary) are dumped immediately, why would eating them result in slower weightloss? Since you asked, I avoid sugar, diet sweeteners, mayonnaise, sour cream, cheese of all kinds - that includes the lowfat and fat-free versions of all of these), and eat no ice cream. I saute vegetables in a little olive oit, eat vinegar on my salads (which pass through me immediately. I eat little meat, lots of vegetable soups and raw veggies, tomatoes, beans, some rice, crackers, and occasionally - graham crackers for a dessert. Of course, I could exercise more - but how many people remark here that they have lost 30 lbs/mo. without it? I am more active because I feel better and am somewhat lighter. I couldn't be happier about my nearly normal blood sugar levels. Please be sensitive to others when asking these types of questions. As you may have heard before - they insinuate that the slowloser is doing something wrong and the others who are doing the same things - or less - are doing it right. I truly believe that I happen to fall into that small percentage of people for whom this surgery is not as effective for weightloss. I am still hoping that the loss will pick up, abut am rather disgusted at this point. Good luck to you. Sherry
