When Dr. Sutherland came to speak at the symposium, his wife was very ill, and that is why he had to keep taking the emergency phone calls. The fact that he came when his wife was so ill, setting the needs of his family and himself aside for the needs of strangers is incredible lesson in humility and love. When choosing a surgeon, there may be just as many technically qualified doctors, but I would rather have my life on the line at the hands of someone who is filled with so much care, concern, and compassion.
