Guest guest
Don't anybody get confused by the subject line and think that you get a feeding tube after surgery -- you don't. This person is asking about whether you can have a feeding tube later if you were in an accident and needed a feeding tube. There is no reason that you could not have a feeding tube after this surgery if you were in some sort of accident that required one. In fact, one MGB patient who developed a leak and had to have surgery for it was sent home with a naso-gastric tube for a month, so I know for a fact at least one person has had a feeding tube after this surgery. With the RNY, which is NOT like this surgery, the stomach pouch is made much smaller and it is much farther up the esophagus, which is probably why someone who had the RNY wouldn't be able to have a feeding tube at some point later. With the MGB, you have about 6-8 oz. of your original stomach as your new stomach, so it is still pretty roomy and it is located at the end of the esophagus where it is supposed to be.
