Holly, You might ask your doctor to consider writing you a script for Peptamen. It's a medium chain triglyceride supplemental product that's used in the hospitals for j-tube feedings, that can also be purchased through a pharmacy for home use....a dozen times better than Ensure, and since it's pre-digested, it's also easy on the pancreas. My doc put me on it two years ago when I'd lost so much weight from my CP. It was also at this time that I started taking special vitamins and antioxidants that were known to help with pancreas pain. A specific combination of antioxidants, minerals, amino acids and vitamins that were given to chronic pancreatitis patients at Manchester Royal Infirmary. This particular combination and dosage was studied, and proven to be beneficial in the reduction of pancreas pain. There is a pharmaceutical company in England that makes the vitamins in a combined form, called Antox, and I have ordered from them, but now I just purchase the vitamins and minerals locally at my health food store. The vitamins and minerals are: Beta Carotene - 9,000 IU daily Vitamin C - .54 grams daily Vitamin E - 270 IU daily Selenium - 600 mcg. daily L-Methionine - 2,000 mg. daily The brand I purchase for all my supplements is Solgar, and they are made of pure extracts and completely free of fillers, sugar, salt, starch, corn, yeast, wheat, soy and dairy products, and use no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors....so they are about as pure as could be, and have never caused me any difficulties. I also take additional Vitamin B -12, folic acid and grapeseed extract. If you have any questions about the pancreatitis antioxidant therapy, please let me know and I will post more information about it. Think good thoughts, Heidi Heidi H.
