Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I've been a part of this message board for about 2 months and have found it so helpful to read everyone else's stories/advice. Thank you! I haven't posted about my own situation until now because I really need some input and advice. My son Dean is now 7 months old and just graduated from his DOC band. He was only in it for about 8 weeks (possibly 7 1/2) before he outgrew it. He graduated on July 7th although I have to say I wasn't too excited because I really wasn't very happy with his head yet. He started out with 11mm plagio and I was told no brachy, although I always questioned that and asked about it many times..each time being told no brachy. Well, at his exit scan, I asked about it one more time and asked for his cephalic index...I was then told, oh yes, he did have brachy as well. His original CI was 91.7% - 3 std. dev. outside the norm. I saw the %age on the sheet, they only told me the std dev part. Now he is at 87%, one std dev. outside the norm. His plagio is 5mm assymetry. His numbers really aren't bad, but I'm really not happy with how his head looks. It's still very flat in the back, with noticable assymetry, and very tall on top. As many people have said on here, if you put a marble on his head, it would roll forward, easily! In fact, his exit photos are terrible and it looks like there was no progress. I will post them so you can take a look. Anyways, at the appt yesterday, after my pics, I asked to speak with the PT again because I really wasn't feeling satisfied. I wanted a little explanation as to what to do from this point. I asked if we should get another band (they didn't suggest it or say anything about it until I asked) and I was told it was my decision. She said some people get one and some don't with numbers like his. Insurance won't cover it though. He's still young so I know we can still get more correction, and he was only in the helmet for 8 weeks, but it's a HUGE investment and I'm not sure if I'm just overanalyzing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel very alone in this situation - my husband is supportive but the decision is pretty much mine. Thanks in advance! Tracey I'll post the pics under Dean K.
