Guest guest
At a recent Parents CF meeting, our center director said the same thing about Zithromax. And also mentioned that there have been no studies on using it in little ones. So your Doc may be one of the first. I think it is an issue of what dose to prescribe. _____ Subject: Abby's clinic/Zmax Are any of your little ones on azithromycin? Abby is 15 mos. What do y'all think about this? Guest guest
Zach's only been on Zmax for ear infections. I have heard great things about taking Zmax three times a week. Maybe this will work for Abby. Could you explain the difference between the mucoid and non-mucoid PA? My clinic didn't mention which one Zach had and I didn't know to ask. Guest guest
Joe, I don't know if I ever sent you copies of a couple 20-year old research papers. The studies indicated that Pa becomes mucoid in the face of magnesium deficiency, and is reversible when Mg is brought into balance. The same thing happens with aminoglycoside antibiotics. Pa becomes resistant to aminoglycosides (i.e. Tobramycin, TOBI, gentamicin, amikacin) in the face of Mg deficiency, but is the resistance is reversable when Mg deficiency is corrected. In both instances, this is exactly what happened to my son. He'd cultured mucoid Pa since 1998, and at the onset the mucoid Pa was resistant to all aminoglycosides (though his non-mucoid Pa was sensitive to aminoglycosides). We began correcting Mg deficiency at the end of January 2002. By April 2002, a culture showed both mucoid Pa (and non-mucoid) Pa was sensitive to all aminoglycosides. And at his next culture in Dec. 2002, the mucoid Pa didn't even show up. Some people have shown similar results, though at least in one person, the aminoglycoside sensitivity reversed to resistancy. I suspect this is because of other meds he was taking that continually deplete Mg. Guest guest
Joe, Is there a picture of Abby in the Photos section of this site? I would really like to see her. She about the same age as our " Abby " . Our Abby is in the 50% for weight and the 75% for height. We have some big " Abby's " , thank goodness. I'll be interested in hearing if Zithromax has been given to toddlers. Gale Grandma to Abby (23 months wcf) > Our clinic visit went fine. Guest guest
Gale, I haven't done that yet but as you may suspect I can fix you right up. Always proud to show off my brood. I'll look into how to get that done on this site. Meanwhile I'll send you one direct. Joe > > Our clinic visit went fine. We were given a room that had not been > > used yet that morning.
