Guest guest
Joe, I think the flax seed oil sounds fine since it is labeled high lignan. You can add some oil to warm cereals, yogurt, fruit smoothies, and I suppose you can add some to your salad dressing. This is why I prefers the seeds to the oil, less work on how to eat it, especially for little ones. As far as the tea tree oil goes, the high terpinen-4-ol content is good. The higher the percentage the greater the killing power. As set in 1985, the Australian Standard for tea tree oil states the terpinen-4-ol content should be 30% or greater, while the cineole content should be below 15%. Some people feel that a greater cineole content leads to greater irritation. I wouldn't want a cineole content any less than 5% because who knows, it may also contribute to the total killing power package. When you start manipulating plants you might lose something that's necessary. A word of caution, I wouldn't put the tea tree oil in Abby's bath. Like all kids, she's probably a splasher and you don't want to risk splashing in her eyes. You might get a mini crockpot and fill with hot water, plug it in, add a couple drops then leave it in her room -- out of her reach -- while she sleeps or naps. You can also put a couple drops on a cotton ball and toss the ball into one of the sturdier type Zip-Lock bags, then just have her take a whiff now and then. Use asked about it's usefulness... it's a good antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and kills yeast. If you have pets, you can give them a rinse in tto to kill fleas, fleas, and swab their ears to get rid of mites. When your daughters hit teen years, tto quickly zaps a zit (put it on a Q-tip and dab). If Abby or anyone in the family gets a cold, sinus, infection or upper respiratory congestion, put a drop of tto on a cotton ball and put the ball into the ears to help clear stuffiness and kill bacteria. Don't drop the oil directly into the ears. You can easily do an online search for tto to learn all it's helpful properties, or just wander the aisles of any health food store to see things made with tto: soap, shampoo, face cleaner, toothpaste, mouthwash, foot soaks, etc. I use it when I get a cut or scrape; heals it very fast! By the way, a friend in southern California told me that the Vitamin World near her sells Solgar magnesium glycinate in the 250-count bottles for $12.30, the same price as HouseofNutrition.com. Have you ever looked at your Vitamin World to see if they carry it? I recently learned there's a Vitamin World about three miles west of me, so I plan going there soon to see if they have it. Bev, any word on your pharmacy carrying it? I called one day last month and was disappointed to learn you weren't going to carry it. The person I spoke to seemed to believe they were ordering it *only* for me. When I explained many people worldwide have started taking this brand/type, he promised to look into it. He did call back a week later and left a message saying they were still checking it out. Any news? The tea tree oil is made by " Herbal Authority " and claims to be " pharmaceutical grade " . It says it contains less than 5% cineole and over 35% terpinen-4-ol. (???) The front says 100% Pure Australian Oil and the only ingredient listed is tea tree oil. Did you say a few drops in the bath water for the aroma? How else is it useful for Abby? The flaxseed oil is made by " Vitamin World " which is where I bought both of them in the mall. It says " Organic High Lignan Flaxseed Oil " and " Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids " " Vegetarian Formula " etc. The only ingredient is organic high lignan flaxseed oil. The dosage is one teaspoon and contains 2650.5 mg Alpha-linolenic Acid, 744 mg Linoleic Acid, 837 mg Oleic Acid, and 418.5 Palmitic Acid and Stearic Acid. Are these products okay and if so, how should I use them? Thanks. Joe
Guest guest
The only Mg on the shelves were other derivatives like oxide and others I don't remember. I did look for the magnesium glycinate. I have a membership form from there with a lot of ads. I'll check it out. Thanks, Kim. Guest guest
Kim, we use it in Patti's bath when she has a cold, but we tell her it is a breathing bath and sit next to her the whole time. After the smell wears off we clean out the tub and let her splash away. I understand the concerns about getting it into her eyes, but she loves to just sit there and inhale the steam. (we can't get her to do that over a bowl) It is time consuming, but I guess it all depends on how you want to approach it.
