Guest guest
For those among the list serve working with the older children of immigrants, is there a source or list of states and/or colleges “friendly” to these college-age children who lack documents? Are there among these, some colleges or universities that might have financial aid for these children-without-documents, after enrollment? Thanks for any suggestions or information. Guest guest
We have the same problem here in NYS, Families with high school children just graduated and not able to continue college or university unless parents afford college education. I know there are many sites out there but not know which ones. Can someone else help? The only information I know is that there are funds from the Arquidiosisis or religions entities to help some of these immigrants families but you have to do the research. Guest guest
The following website has useful information, links and resources: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/guidance/financial-aid/undocumented-students. Also, according to the report Young Lives on Hold: The College Dreams of Undocumented Students (which can be accessed from the link above), “since 2001, 10 states (Texas, California, New York, Utah, Illinois, Washington, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas) have passed laws allowing students who attend and graduate from in-state high schools to qualify for in-state tuition in their public colleges, regardless of immigration status.” Three of these states — New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas — also offer financial aid. Here are links to a couple scholarship opportunities: http://www.ca-core.org/scholarships (financial assistance to college-bound, undocumented, Latino students) http://maldef.org/leadership/scholarships/general/ (you can download a list of several opportunities from this site) -- Seth Doyle Migrant Health Coordinator Northwest Regional Primary Care Association 206-783-3004 ext. 16 sdoyle@... Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions. Another source I had wanted " to shortcut " was the list-serve compendium generated by the Center for Immigration Studies, based on news articles appearing across the country. From time to time, there are news articles on states and/or colleges less strict or more strict etc. Articles go back several years and appear daily, hence there's a grip of work to be done. These suggestions may provide some search words that will simplify the process. Thanks again. 2010/1/21 cflorez@... <southeastgeorgia@...> Hello All, Just a suggestion.
