Guest guest
We are in San Diego and the fires came within 8 miles of our house. The only place we can go is West, and within three miles we are in the ocean! So I was trying to figure out a way to hook up our boat to my VW bug! I just kept trying to imagine how I was going to fit 2 BIG dogs,2 kids, 's vest, nebulizer, meds, pictures etc... into my car!One never really thinks about a disaster and if you had ten minutes to leave your house, what would you grab? My husband left to go fishing at the Colorado River and he left his car at his friends house. I talked to his wife today and she said she had been evacuated and had no idea if our car was still there. He ( hubby) was due home tonight, but all of the freeways are closed and he is stuck in a hotel. " Only an act of God would keep me away from you " is what he told me on the phone( all together now....awwwwww)! So I will not be sleeping tonight for fear of this thing rearing its ugly head up over the ridge!! e
Guest guest
DEAR KRISTEN, I am so sorry . I don't know what else to say, I am sure your doing all you can. But, yes, do get all the things that are necessary into your car. use a cooler & put whatever meds your using in it . Keep a daily needs in house with you. Even if you had to go to a motel further away , you'll need them. Also some clothes changes. I am sure you can get much in ahead of time. It will be a pain to take back in ...if fire stops -I pray for that to happen , of course. BUT , BE prepared somewhat. ------ You wont be sorry you did. I wish I had years ago when the hurricane DONNA hit us in FL., we hadn't been hit in 50 years in central Fl like that , so I wasn't thinking it would. It did....BUT, I took my 4 kids, one only 7mo old baby & 19 month old (YES 11 mo apart ) boys 3 & 4 yrs. ) out on a national guard pontoon boat..... We lost house -all in it & my station wagon. My husband was overseas aboard a ship .. YES, Do get prepared . Better to UNPREPARE, then go that way. It isn't easy , but I do hold you in all the special strong thoughts I can gather & have many also doing the same------for all of those out there, who haven't mentioned it . Bless you!! LOVE & HUGS, GrandmoMBEV Re: Surrounded by fires We are in San Diego and the fires came within 8 miles of our house.
