Guest guest
You should still do the intro diet even though you don't think that he has digestive issues. I noticed increased verbalization in my 3 yr. old son after about a week on scd. It wasn't dramatic, but improved none the less. Every few weeks I have seen him make a jump forward. Personally, I have seen improvement with eye contact issues or stimming. The stimming has never been severe to begin with. I have noticed an increase in socialization lately. Some people are able to tolerate dairy, and my son appears to be one of them. We removed dairy for about two month, and reintroduced it with goat yogurts and goat cheese. Everything remained the same. We switched to cow about a month ago, and still no changes occurred. I'm sure that he will benefit from scd. Pretty much anyone can improve their health dramaticly with it in my opinion. Just stick with it even when you feel overwhelmed in the beginning. Guest guest
My son has been on SCD since June. We did use the Intro Diet back then. Initially his BMs had become much better but after 1.5 months his diahreal came back. We put him on the Intro Diet from last Sunday trying to find out what foods have been causing the problem. For the first 3 days, his stools were formed although the color could be darker. We introduced prawns yesterday and today he had the worst BM I have ever seen. It was very loose and orange color. He only had chicken, carrot puree, green bean puree and a bit of pear juice. My question is if this is part of die-off reaction or the prawns were causing the problem? What should I do next? Any advice would be great. Thanks,
Guest guest
Dear Newcomer, In the BTVC book Eliane talks about how all humans have problems digesting starch and how all humans have starch that is in their gut that is undigested. Therefore implying that it could ferment bad gut flora in all of us....with GI problems or not. In the Autism chapter she makes it clear that ASD people have a gut flora problem that doesn't always imply gut pain or gut troubles. Please read her Celiac Chapter and the autism connection in the BTVC book agian to review this. Sometimes neurological symptoms are the only problems. Therefore, after personaly having much success with SCDiet and it helping our autistic/pdd daughter, I feel that it is very important to go by the book and follow the instructions and guidelines. This is what we did and it is working for us. Elaine wanted all of us to do intro for a minimum of two days. Longer for those with diarrhea and other problems. Less for those without as many problems. If I was you, inorder for you to judge the success or failure of SCDiet TM, you will need to go by the book and do as she instructs in Chapter 9 and 10. Otherwise you may give the diet an unjustified judgement of " not working " that well and leave blaming SCDiet...when you truly did not follow the guidelines. So here is my opinion, if you want to see if this will take away his stimming. I would go slow with your son, even if you do think his gut is healthy. I would still follow the BTVC guidelines and do the Bland intro for a minimum of two days (cut the honey down to 1/3 and water down the juice)...and only eat intro foods. Also after intro, peel and cook everything in the beginning ,and eat easy to digest foods too at first (meaning no peanut butter or hard to digest foods like beans or nuts). You may be amazed that he too will have a die off reaction to gut flora dieing that you did not suspect, proving that his gut was " sicker " than you believed. He may appear to become sicker at this time, but stay close to this list serve and they will talk you through the die off/transition, that can be very difficult for some of us. It just may be that you will be able to move through the stages faster than most of us since unlike our family who came to SCD so sick. You can hope. We just celebrated six months. Our daughter has not stimmed in several months, plus her seizures and deliriums are gone. We are thrilled. She now just appears to be nervous during those times when she use to stimm...a much improvement. We do the SCDiet with whole foods, acidophilus, goat yogurt, scd safe vitamins, scd safe calcium and mercury free fish oil (this is all). I hope that this works for you and you find the BTVC book your solution too. I wish you well, Antoinette and (celiac) parents to three (add, adhd, autism/pdd, celiac, colitis, multiple allergies and more) healing when no other way worked SCD 2/
Guest guest
Please let us know exactly what he's been eating... prior to re-starting the intro diet, too. Are you SURE these prawns had nothing added to them that might have been illegal or just irritating to him? I am not sure that is a food we would usually suggest introducing so early.... but I admit, I am also unfamiliar with whether there are usually preservatives or other solutions added to them. Might depend on if they were fresh, frozen or ?? thanks, Patti > > My son has been on SCD since June. We did use the Intro Diet back then.
