Hi:

I'm new to this group and pancreatitis. I live in a small rural

area and they seem to be about as confused as I am on how to treat

and what I can eat and can't. I have had and ERCP and still have

not got to see the Dr. that done the test, and that was over 6 weeks

ago. My family Dr. is not familiar with the disease, so he has sent

me to the ER twice and they give me IV fluids. The CT showed the

pancreas was prominant and enlarged is the reason for the ERCP. The

pain is devistating. Once I have been given something for pain. I

have run a constant fever, sweats, rapid heart rate, fatigue, leg

cramps. All I am being told is to stay with the bed rest and drink

fluids. Well, they put me one chicken broth and water and I got

dehydrated. Could someone tell me what I can and can not eat and

what to do about the sweats. I won't hold anyone responsible for

their answers.

Thank You, Mina

Mina,

your doctor should be hospitalizing you so that you don't get

dehydratedl, as well as giving you pain mediction for the pain you are

having. This is supposed to be standard treatment for pancreatitis. Ask

your doctor to refer you to a GI ASAP or to admit you so that you don't

get so dehydrated. In the meantime, if you can get some gatorade or

pedialyte(in the baby food section), and if you can keep it down, it

should help with the dehydration Also, if you want further information

on pancreatitis, check out this website. It is very informative.

Do search on pancreatitis and read all the information that comes up on

the search. There is a lot of stuff there. Welcome to the group, but

I'm sorry you have this horrible disease to have to be here.

Hi Mina,

Thanks for not holding me responsible, not that Poncho is my real name

anyway, but you are in a serious spot there.

First, treat yourself, dehydration is serious so first get hydrated. The

initial solution (pardon the pun) is easy. One pint of clean water, one half

teaspoon of sugar, and a small pinch of salt. Then, drink a pint per hour all of

your waking hours.

Second, the rehydration might likely help your other immediate identified

symptoms, maybe not all, maybe not completely, but it may help.

Third, get somehow to a medical qualified doctor that you feel good about

treatment. A doctor that you can at least talk to honestly. Panc. is not

something that you can do alone and thus you need medical help. And it's best to

have

someone you trust and can depend upon.

And, last, keep in touch with this web site, many suggestions are available

and help may be at any one of them, But you must make the contact. We cannot

read your mind or your keyboard.

I hope my suggestions help you

Best wishes, poncho - GA

BTW exactly what state are you in??

Ponch
