I ask b/c before we did SCD I removed a fair portion of Glenn's GF grain intake (used just home-soaked and ground amaranth and quinoa). Two days after this he had several bouts of vomiting, but he was not " sick " (ie acted fine, would then just surprise himself by throwing up. We saw the same thing a few days into a round of diflucan, flagyl and nystatin several months later. The vomitus was a weird greyish color, and did not have that characteristic " vomit " smell. More like old bread. My theory was a big ol' yeast/biocrap die off. Of course, depending on where you live there is now a nasty gut bug going around, and anytime you change a kid's state of physiology (even for the better) you render them briefly more susceptible to the bug du jour. jmo -christine -glenn scd+ since 2/
Guest guest
Nausea is very common in the very beginning of SCD. Some people do report vomiting. If there has been an overgrowth of bad bacteria in his gut, that are causing his GI symptoms, you can expect that bacteria is now dying.... and as it does that, it gives off toxins that the body has to deal with. He may feel pretty crummy for a few days or longer.... achey, fluish, very tired. All of those symptoms are common. Soaking in a tub with epsom salts may help. Patti Side effects of the SCD My wife and I recently implemented the SCD with diary for our 14 year old son who may have Crohn's Disease. He has been on the diet for only 2 days and this evening he vomiited several times and he has not vomitted for months, nor has he been sick. He also has Aspergers. Is anyone aware of this side effect, given that he has been on the diet for 2 days.
Guest guest
This child is HEALING. Congratulations. I don't think it's an allergic reaction. I think it's die-off. Those who see it early on, have only good signs of recovery. The vomit is the body purging out the toxins. Hang in there and let us know when you see better cognition. We were right where you are now. Good luck & God Bless!! Jenn & K Side effects of the SCD My wife and I recently implemented the SCD with diary for our 14 year old son who may have Crohn's Disease. Guest guest
Hi rowland7254, > My wife and I recently implemented the SCD with diary for our 14 year old son who may have > Crohn's Disease. It seems to be a part of the die off reaction. The body " clearing the decks " -clearing out harmful microbes and their metabolites. The by products can cause a number of different die off symptoms - lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, sleepiness, increased urination etc. Many people have found that epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal help. see http://pecanbread.com/badreaction.html and http://pecanbread.com/difficulties.html#initial Did you start with the introductory diet? It is in BTVC and listed at: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm What type of dairy did you use? What is he eating now? If the vomiting continues make sure he keeps his electrolytes up with either diluted legal juices and/or the electrolyte recipe at http://pecanbread.com/recipes/electrolytedrink.html ELECTROLYTE DRINK from the LI Listserve 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey 1/4 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp.baking soda Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours. After that, a new batch should be made. Let us know if there is no improvement within a day or so. Guest guest
Thanks Jen & K. Your confirmation of the " die-off " was very reassuring and comforting. Thank you for acknowledging our post! It was a tough night to say the least, however since early Friday, our son has only experienced a few stomach achs and prior to the SCD diet, he had many each day. We see him blossoming before our eyes...his skin is clearer, his color is coming back and so is his appetite. Thanks again. & Barbara > > This child is HEALING. Congratulations. Many will tell you after a certain age, healing is unobtainable(as far as ASD) but, we all see it first hand on SCD!
