Dawn,

There is a chapter in edition 10 of BTVC that is devoted to autism. If you

don't have that edition, you cqn read the chapter on the pecan bread web site.

www.pecanbread.com

Also, you can look under the food preparation section at this site, and there

will be an intro diet section that will give you the intro foods for asd

children. It is almost identical to the adult intro, but omits the dairy since

many children come to scd having been casein free. There is also a stages chart

in the " beyond the intro diet " section that you will find helpful. While it

isn't required to introduce foods in that order, it is helpful because it gives

you the lists of foods that are most easily tolerated. Good luck, and let us

know if we can help with anything.

New to goup - childrens' starter diet

Hi,

I have a 3yr old son, recently diagnosed with ASD. Currently on a

GF/CF,corn free, soy free diet and about to start the SCD as tests have

revealed he has a problem with yeast overgrowth and breaking down

carbohydrates.

After reading the book " Breaking the Vicious cycle " , have I missed the

section on a beginners diet for children or is it the same as the adult

version?

Hi Meleah,

Thanks for the info. Also bought a copy of " grain-free gourmet " , there are

some really nice receipes in there and simple too, just how I like them.

Just noticed your kids are the same age as mine. We have 5yrs,

Jordan (ASD) 3 and a half, and baby 19 mnths. I'm sure we will

have lots more to exchange with each other re: the kids.

Thanks again.

Dawn,

That's great. You're right that our kids are right at the same ages. Even

funny how our middle kids are both the asd ones. Feel free to email me off list

if you want to chat. Also, I haven't seen Grain Free Formet yet, but just be

careful not to use recipes that are more advanced. Remember that you're just

getting ready to begin the diet. Your food choices will be quite limited

initially. Can you do dairy, nuts, or eggs? Just a reminder that all fruits

and veggies should be pealed, seeded, and well cooked in the beginning months.

Remember to introduce nuts by starting with a nut butter, then move to the nut

flours, and the larger nut pieces. iel has been scd for almost seven

months, and we're still not past the nut flour phase. He's making good progress

though. Are you giving your child any meds or supplements? Any therapies,

medical interventions, ect.? These are things to be watchful of. I'm not

saying that they will impeed progress. None of iel's supps or treatments

have seemed to cause problems, but some kids just don't do well with certain

things even if they aren't against scd protocall. I hope this is helpful. Lots

of these kinds of posts come up with new people, so maybe this will help even

before you get started.

Hi,

We've been with a DAN! doctor since sept 06 who put ds on a GF,CF,corn

free and soy free diet. So he can't do dairy, he doesn't like eggs and

I've never tried him with nuts.

He's on a number of supplements now:probiotics, yeast, multi vits, fish

oils even taking oxypowder, all to help heal the gut.

Our DAN! doctor has done a number of lab test for our ds and some of shown

a yeast overgrowth and a problem with digisting carbohydrates, hence the

move across to this diet. Glad you mentioned about going slow with diet

though, it's so tempting to run ahead.

Will keep in touch.

Dawn
