Guest guest
> Hello all! > > I just love this group! I'm really getting a kick out of the support and honest answers being shared. I have been considering this surgery for a few weeks now and I guess I'm worrying the most over my insurance company covering this. Do you think it would help to send a letter to them from my PCP when I send Dr. R's letter? > > I've got my husband's support on this. I went to visit my mom last week and told her about this. She told me to go for it and she sat down with me and shared alot of family medical history I didn't even know about. Let's just say that the deck is really stacked against me. I am 270 with a BMI of 46, however, I am not experiencing any major health problems yet (although I am begining to feel the warning signs) I'm worried that my insurance company will say " You're just not sick enough " and that they would prefer me to be on my death bed. I'd really like to see this as preventive medicine for myself, rather than the cure later on for more serious problems due to my weight, if that makes sense. > > Just wanted to share this and I hope to get some encourageing comments and answers. Thanks for listening.... > > Deb in NC > > Hi Deb. Welcome to the group. My name is Rhonda. I really love this group too. My insurance company had to have a letter of referral from my PCP before they would even consider the request from Dr. R. I too do not have to many co-morbities; however, they are coming. Most of them right now are more limitations physically and emotionally from my weight but the medical are also starting to creep in. I also have a family history that says I am at high risk if I do not get this weight off and keep it off. Basically I feel that is what the insurance company is saying to me also. " You're not sick enough and you have not tried hard enough on your own yet " . I really wonder if the people that work for insurance companies get this kind of run around when they need medically necessary surgeries. If your insurance gives you a hassle don't give up. That is what they are hoping for. Best wishes to you. Some insurance companies want to see 2 supporting opinions, or even require it. If they do deny you the first time, don't give up! Keep fighting. There have been many on this list who have prevailed even when things didn't look good. Tricia in IL
