Let me know LOVE & HUGS, GrandmoMBEV G-tube before holidays or not?? /Grandma Bev Hello to All!! You folks are awesome here I am a lurker when I have time, and post from time to time as well. My amazing son s doc says our next step is a g- tube. I know there have been several post on this before. His doc had told me we were so far away from him needing a tube do not worry about it. Now...... after visiting our clinic this morn he needs one soon. is in preschool now for three months, he goes on and off due to teachers and children being sick in his class. He is with his father evey other weekend. Preschool during the day for 5 hours daily so I can try to make $$. I suppose my question is, if it were you would you go ahead and get the tube before the holidays or wait??? I want to go ahead and get it if it will help . His docs says he can wait. But all of you that have had you children go through this, what is your experience of their comfort level, healing time etc. etc. Thank you so much for your thoughts and advice. Grandma Bev do you have a video or any information on this? Thank you. Guest guest
I understand your dillemna. If I could do the g-tube thing all over again, I would have done it as soon as possible. Every day that ticked by, he got thinner and at more risk for illness. My son was 18 months when he got his and it has been fantastic. We kept putting it off and delaying it thinking he would suddenly have a growth spurt but he never did. The g-tube has put Ashton from below the charts to the 40th percentile with few illnesses and we don't have to worry about how many calories he gets. If you want to see more about his situation, you can visit our website at http://www.babyfergie.com i hope this helps and good luck with your decision. Guest guest
Crystal, It took a while to get used to hers. If you were going to base it on our experience you would wait. However, Most people have had better experiences with G-tube placement/after care than we did. Does he need to get reflux surgery as well? That was the hardest part of it for us. Guest guest
I would wait. In case there is a problem, infection, etc. you don't want to ruin his holiday. Its going to be hard enough - let him enjoy the holidays.....I have been debating having Dylan's sinus surgery and am opting to wait til Feb. I want him to enjoy his Christmas. If he NEEDS it ASAP medically - do it................ASAP Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 11 and 7) with CF. Guest guest
Crystal, My husband asked Zach's doc the same question in August and got the same reply. He said we were no where close to needing a tube, but with every month without weight gain, I wonder.
