Guest guest
Theresa, You need to be giving them the acidopholus now. Begin immediately. These bad bacteria are dying off, and you need to be right there providing their gut with the good bacteria right away. I can't advise you with the bm problem, but I know that someone else will be able to help with more suggestions on getting his bowels moving. I am betting that he will feel 100x better once he goes. I'm so glad that they're all eating so well. Meleah Thank you-day #4 is now day #6 > Thanks to each for the timely responses and for the encouragement. Guest guest
> > Where (and what form) do we give magnesium citrate? Kirkman has a magnesium citrate that has nothing else in it. It is a powder and dissolves in juice or water. It doesn't change the taste of the juice. We have to use it with our son because of constipation issues. Also, high dose of vitamin C will loosen his bowels. Debbie, mom to Carson
Guest guest
, I'm afraid the epsom salts lotion probably would sting or irritate the rash he already has. You can just rub it on areas of his body where the rash isn't (upper back? chest? etc..) so he will get the benefits absorbing in somehow. Footbaths with epsom salts will help draw out toxins, too.... if you think he'd put up with that. I don't think you need to strain the butternut squash.... just puree it to mix with egg for the pancakes or whatever. Even just mashing it well would probably be fine. Magnesium citrate is given orally.... like Debbie said, you can order the plain powder, or buy it in capsules (make sure there's no added illegals) and open them into food. I'd give at least 400 mgs per day.... maybe more... until he is going regularly. I would just do nasal irrigation with plain salt water (I posted my whole instructions for how to do this last week, I think... let me know if you need it again) IF you think he would let you do it. If not, maybe get some oil of eucalyptus and put a few drops into a basin with hot water and have him breathe the steam? Or a room vaporizer? You can buy plain benadryl (or the generic- diphenhydramine) in capsules and open them into food. That won't contain any sweetners. The nasal drip is most likely going to get better once he's past this die-off phase. Try making some of the electrolyte drink from Elaine's site: *** 1 quart boiled water 2 tbsp. honey 1/4 tsp. of salt 1/4 tsp.baking soda Can be kept in refrigerator for 24 hours, and then a new batch should be made. *** It might be more soothing as he drinks it, because of the salt..... and it may help with constipation, too. You just need to keep him hydrated..... AND I'd say the most urgent thing of all your concerns right now is that your oldest son NEEDS to have a BM. That is pretty serious to not have gone in all this time! You've got to do something SOON. Maybe even a dose of magnesium sulphate (epsom salts) orally, mixed according to the instructions on the package..... because this is sort of an urgent situation if it's been more than 4 days. His stool will just continue to get harder to pass.... and sort of impacted, possibly. Once that stool is very hard, and large, it will be painful to pass.... and I'm sure he's aware of that and reluctant to go. I would not normally suggest using the oral mag sulphate laxative, because it's pretty powerful.... but it WILL WORK, within hours. It does not taste good.... so that might be a battle to get him to drink the mixture down. I don't know... just a thought. I agree that you need to supplement the acidophilus now.... though it can trigger additional die-off, it's very essential to replace bad gut pathogens with good flora. Patti Thank you-day #4 is now day #6 Thanks to each for the timely responses and for the encouragement. We are giving the charcoal in dark sippy cups! All three children are getting epsom salt baths (2xday for ages 7 and 4 a 1xday for 22mos old). My eldest is scratching at his rash on his hips and lower back, which has also broken out on his lower abdomen and he was crying cause " it burns " . He asked me to put lotion, I used cetaphil and it hurt. If I make the lotion with epsom salts, will it sting? (Thanks Patti, for the link!) My 4yr old is still complaining of headaches. Last night both she and her little brother had their first b.m. since starting the diet-Yeah! But big brother has not been able to go in spite of prune juice/o.j. per Elaine's sight which we tried 2x today. Today they all ate " pancakes " made of egg and strained butternut squash. They loved them! Should I have given the squash unstrained to help with constip? Hope I didn't defeat the purpose. He has such huge sensory issues that a glycerin suppository may not be an option. Where (and what form) do we give magnesium citrate? He won't even try to sit on the toilet and I'm worried. We stopped giving banana. Now I've got a ton of bananas in all different stages of ripeness! Is there anything scd legal we can do about his nasal drip and constant throat clearing? (day and night) He had this problem long before starting scd, but it's out of control now. We used to use dye-free benadryl, but it's got sorbitol. He seems especially irritated any time he drinks (diluted juice, water warm or cool). May be it's all just part of his sensory difficulty. There were fewer meltdowns today. The two older ones still look so very pale and tired. It sure is great to see them eat with gusto, though. They eat things now they would never have tried before. Dana-we are holding off on goatmilk yogurt as we are nervous about casein and allergies. We got the Kirkman acidophilus, but are not sure when to begin.
