Guest guest
Have you tried just giving your albuterol with puffs and a spacer? It takes all of about 30seconds. It works the same for most kids and that is what we've been doing with my son (almost 2) who gets it only whenever he has a cold so far. Talk to your doc. It saves a lot of time- especially if you start to add TOBI into the time as we have. Tina mom to almost 2 with CF and Zoe 3 no CF.
Guest guest
Karon, My daughter is 16 months and we went through this with her as well. They told us in clinic after Piper was dx that as long as she got her nebs & cpt like she was supposed to that she would just get used to it and would eventually fall asleep during it........HA quite the opposite. It is better now, but when we were having these troubles I got on here and asked for any suggestions, and I'll tell you what I was told. #1 DON'T GIVE IN!!! #2 If they scream (and they probably do) fine, let them it is good exercise for their lungs. We still have to hold Piper down to get her to do her nebs, but after a few mintues she quits fighting and usually will watch tv. With her cpt, I usually put the satellite on the light classical music channel and " bop " away, she now goes to sleep within about 10 min of starting her treatments!!! I hope that things get better with the treatments!!! Katy mom to Austin 4 no CF & Piper 16 months w/cf kirby_mi wrote: Hello all. Since it takes 45-60 min for the whole routine (depending on his level of cooperation), we need some ideas of what else might keep him entertained. He's had treatments since birth and cpt as well, but just now seems to be testing or just wants to play... I don't know. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Hi Karon, My daughter will be one tomorrow and we've been doing CPT since birth too. She likes the Baby Einstein videos but lately we've been watching videos called Signing Time. We are doing baby signing with my daughter which is why we bought them. They are really cute and definitely hold her attention. Maybe just trying a new video will help. If you want to take a look at them check out www.signingtime.com . You can also find them at Amazon.com. I also try to do the treatments right before nap time so she is tired although, she never sleeps through it! The other thing you might want to try is reading a book or listening to music for the neb treatments then doing the video for the CPT. Good luck! Guest guest
At that age we bought Patti some little toys that went into a basket and were only brought out when we did cpt, and only if she was getting restless with watching a video. We had little stuffed animals, a couple of doll house people, a book, and I think a puppet. Every once in a while the basket wouldn't work and I would make a point to pick up a little something new for it the next time I was shopping. Then there were the times when she really didn't want to do cpt or nebs, and would be furious. You know what, I can relate to that... There are times I don't want to have to do them (with her) either! We would encourage her to be mad, tell her it was okay and give her soft things to throw. Sometimes she would throw them all and then be okay. Sometimes she would throw them all and still scream. But I think that even at 1 she could tell that we understood and sympathized with her, but that treatments were to be done. Personally I believe that this is why I feel like she continued and continues treatment compliance as we moved through our terrible twos and into our sassy threes. Guest guest
When Savannah was smaller we would let her give her " baby " a treatment first and when she was getting her treatment she would give her " baby " CPT. She always liked using the mask since it keeps her hands free. Now at 10 yrs. she does a lot of them at the computer. Best of luck. I know it can be frustrating and since we are doing them every 4 hrs. around the clock it becomes tiresome too. Guest guest
Our 1 yr. old as well as our 2 yr. old LOVE " The Wiggles " . If you don't have it - GET IT. It's a must for Abby's CPT. They also like most anything that have kids singing. " Kid Songs " is another hit. If there's very much dialogue (which there isn't on these) Abby (15mos.) loses interest but as soon as the singing starts back up she's enthralled. The Wiggles aren't kids (some goofy grown men) but they do have kids on there as well as costumed characters. I haven't seen kids go for something like this since Barney. The tapes we have are " Wiggly Playtime " and " Dance Party " . They're some of the original ones. Guest guest
We do the same thing. My kids do treatments in front of computer. I now need another computer! When they were little it was a favorite TV show/tape, then video tapes specially bought or rented for the " touch times " when they didn't want to sit. You have to outsmart them. Figure out what THEY like that week and use it wisely. I also use the incentive plan. " Why don't we do out treatments earlier (7) then you can go out and play after.......... " well, that was useful in the summer and as kids get older. Never overlook bribes/rewards........for 28 days of Tobi they can pick out a pack of baseball cards. A reward is something we give after completion of a task.. A bribe is given BEFORE...........there is a difference. Rosemary in NY with 3 children (13, 11 and 7) with CF. Guest guest
What an awesome Idea, Deb! I think it's very creative! Our cats always come and sit with us when is getting nebs and vest (they used to come visit during PT too.) likes to ask the cat questions and then we pretend that I can read her mind and I come up with silly answers. I still wonder why the one cat wants to be around us when the neb and vest are on, it's so noisy and they usually don't like a lot of noise! also likes to watch movies or her favorite tv shows. mom of and one on the way Re: suggestions for CPT/Neb? Guest guest
, Zach likes the signing time videos too, but he has lost interest in most signs except for elephant. Go figure?!! He is a big Dumbo fan. I have to say I love the song the mom sings at the end called " The Good " . It makes me weepy. Guest guest
Happy Birthday Ellie! Eat lots of cake! Zach can say Ma Ma, Da Da, Ma Ma Ma (grandma) Pa pa bob (grandpa bob), and Boo! Zach loves to play peek a boo and will hide behind something and then pop out and say boo! He thinks he is so ferocious! We have been making some interesting discoveries about Zach's sleeplessness. I really think it is all digestion related. I tried an experiment with Metamucil. I put a little bit in his gatorade for a few days and he was having bowel movements in the evening before bedtime and sleeping through the night. I stopped because I thought I could convince the doc that he needed a laxative, but since he can have bowel movements without one, the doc just doesn't see the need. Without the metamucil, he has a huge bowel movement every morning between 5 and 6 and is restless all night. The pediatrician says he should just eat prunes, the gi doc says he doesn't need a laxative at all if his stool is not hard, and his cf doc is convinced his night wakings are behavioral. We are going back on Metamucil and hope to sleep well soon. Sara > > Hi Karon, > > > > My daughter will be one tomorrow and we've been doing CPT since > birth > > too. Guest guest
Thanks Sara...Ellie had a fun party. She didn't quite know what to do with the cake though. She took a few bites but mostly smeared the frosting all over herself. As far as the Metamucil goes, stick with what you think is working. It sounds like you have figured it out. I know that 90% of the time when Ellie is not sleeping well, it is because she is going to have a BM soon. It will wake her up early in the morning and early from a nap. Good luck! suggestions for CPT/Neb? > > > > Hello all. > > This is one of the first times I've posted here (aside from > saying > > hello). I am looking for suggestions...
