Guest guest
Thank you for this link Margaret. I have never been told I have SOD. My CT scan just indicated extensive calcifications throughout the pancreas together with atrophy. At the time (1988) of the coeliac diagnosis, I have to say that my improvement on the GF diet was magical and immediate, even more so when I eliminated lactose. However, it was never complete. The symptoms of bad pain, especially, together with malabsorption again, returned about 1999, never having gone away completely. Only with the CP diagnosis, the introduction of Creon and the elimination of alcohol totally as well as acceptance of low-fat meals, has there been more relief. I may have both diseases or it may be that the GF/no lactose diet automatically cut down on fats and so helped the undiagnosed CP back in 1988. Undiagnosed? Yes, a common occurrence. Even though my fierce abdominal pain went back to childhood, and my mother had pancreatitis, my condition went undetected unless last year. I'm 58 now! In 1988 the CT scan and ERCP showed nothing. I'm afraid this often happens. Good luck to all with this bizarre, little-understood and mysterious disease! I can empathise with everyone, having been ill with it since the age of 5.
