Carol,

I'm sorry you are going through the trouble with your md's staff. I work at

Louisville Oncology. I am a secretary for a Gyn Oncology Surgeon and do a lot

of FMLA papers. I also have CP. I go out of my way for Dr. Doering's patient.

I treat them how I would like to be treated. Too many people take their

personal feelings and aggravation out on these patients. I love my job and

enjoy what I do. You know I only have CP and it could be worse but my personal

problems are my personal problems. Even if I am having a bad day if someone

asks me how I'm doing I say " I'm good how about you " not sit there and tell them

all my woes and misfortunes. I also have a 1 week max turnaround on the FMLA's.

Sometimes if I am not real busy I will fill it out while the patient waits or is

getting Chemotherapy. I want them to leave with a smile on their face. It

makes my job worth it. I have been through what you have. I had my GI doctor's

Office Manager tell me that I needed to be weaned off my Oxycontin. I turned

red. I did talk to the nurse practioner and she said that I was not to wean

myself off the Oxycontin and said she would talk to the office manager

immediately regarding this.

Your physician may not know that his staff is behaving this way and ask to talk

to him personally. That is my experience. The girl made me feel like I was a

drug seeker calling for my meds. I don't wish bad things on people but if they

had to deal with a Chronic Debilitating disease like we have then things would

be different.

I didn't mean to write a book but it burns me how we are treated.

Take care

I quit working as an Occupational Health Nurse in January. January

27,2000 to be exact. I went through denial of short term disability

and denial of long term, after trying to work with chronic

pancreatitis since 1996. I finally did recieve 6 months of std after

being off year, ( it was nice to recieve the lump sum, didn't help

much during the time without pay) I went through much abuse with my

former employer, which also happens to be my husbands employer too.

I think there are many out there that have been in the same

situation and we can all relate.

I once even had them deny a hositalization. They stated that

there was " NO " medical necessity for me to be in the hospital. I got

stuck with the entire hospital bill. I can assure you that I never

paid it either, haven't and never will.
