Guest guest
To the Mom You sound like a very good mother, and I am sure you have reached the best decision for your daughter. I am glad that you have thoroughly checked it out, and I agree that MOM knows best. Good luck, to your daughter and to yourself, God be with you both. Trudy thanks from Moms request Thanks goes to those that sent replys of support on this thread and to those who emailed information. Also to and Trudy who reminded me of what I've had to work thru to accept my daughters decision. She has a desease called Morbid Obesity that can be treated thru modern medicine and Dr R. will modify nature with modern medicine so that the body can heal itself. I don't feel because a deseased body is young that it has to pay some social dues to qualify for this treatment. she is trying to avoid the dues to be healthy and happy while she is still young. Believe me, any of you that were obese (not chubby) during your youth know what I'm talking about- fatique, joint pain, shortness of breath, let alone ridicule. One thing that convinced me to consent was our family history. My parents died at 52 of heart desease and her paternal grandfather died of pancreatic cancer jusst a month ago. There were several very morbidly obese women on her fathers side that died of complications from the desease. And I am a 5 year survivor of melanoma and cervical cancer thanks to modern medicine. So with the odds genetically stacked against her-- I say I approve, let's procede......the MoM
Guest guest
Mom... I am going to agree with you. I am 27 years old and tired of having to deal with all of the comorbidties that come with being morbidly obese. I only wish that this procedure was available and I knew of it when I was younger. I feel thankful for finding it now. I don't have diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease yet ... but my family suffers from it greatly. These health risks are my biggest concern. I have had both grandmothers die of heart disease. One was diabetic. My father has had a heart attack and stroke (also diabetic). My grandfather has had 2 heart attacks (also diabetic). I have an uncle who has had bypass surgery twice. He still suffers from heart problems-had to retire at the age of 47 years old. I have an aunt who just found out she is diabetic. A nineteen year old cousin who had a stroke because his cholesterol was way way up there. I have felt my whole life is destined to be short. If this is a way I can protect myself from early death- I am going to try. My husband and I would like to have kids. I found out 2 years ago that I can't. I am healthy but once again obesity has stood in the way. I do not ovulate. I spent a lot of money last year (every single day of the year) trying to detect ovulation ... didn't happen. I am hoping this will help solve that problem. My GYN says it will. Maybe in a couple of years I will be a Mom too. I also want to mention the social ridicule. I agree-why allow your daughter to have to face that any longer? I have dealt with the pain of ridicule since grade school. I remember so many horrible things about my childhood (especially school). My mother tried so hard to protect me but it still hurt. I am basically a happy person because I have learned to block it out. I think the hardest thing I have done is face it now. Having to write my patient letter and read my mom's support letter made all the pain reality. I have been very emotional and am not running from it anymore. I feel by having this surgery I am going to have a better life all the way around. I hope your daughter can have the opportunity to start healing at a young age. Like I said before-why suffer longer? In a couple of weeks I will be post-op ... if she wants ... you can e-mail me or call me. I would love to be a contact. Please keep us posted on her progress. I am praying for you and her. Hope to be healthier soon, Terri K MGB 10/
Guest guest
Here. Here. I agree. MO should be eradicated as soon as possible. As a young woman, beginning college and serious dating and mating, what better gift? My best wishes to your daughter. Blessings to you both. PhillyJude.
