Guest guest
Hi Holly My son just graduated out of his STARband a few weeks ago. He began wearing it at 5 months also. We had that same problem with his left ear pushing forward. Every time he grew, the band would twist a little. We felt very frustrated in the beginning as well. After being reassured by the ortho's that it would not damage our son's ear, we stayed consistent with leaving the band on and went for adjustments every 2 weeks...sometimes even more often than that. After about 3 weeks, it regulated itself and stopped twisting and pushing his ear until we were about 2-3 days away from his next adjustment. Hope everything works out for you - it does get better! Guest guest
That looks a lot like our 2nd Hanger Helmet that was even more ill-fitting than the first. You can see our picture toward the end of the S folder under Shane. After they couldn't get the 2nd band to fit properly we stopped going to them and went straight to Cranial Technologies. We wasted a lot of time when my son was 6,7, and 8 months old. He got his first DOCBand at 9 months and he is currently wearing a 2nd DOCBand at 14 months. I hope that they can get it right for you before you waste too much time like we did. Guest guest
Holly, I'm glad you found your way here! Like others said, some twisting is normal. Especially in the beginning when the flattening is the worst and/or when the helmet newly adjusted. Elaine's will twist the other way, though not quite as bad. It will rub against her right ear and fold it a bit, but it's never twisted far enough it's bothered her, or covered an ear. We were told it will tend to happen more after a new adjustment and after waking from a nap. Our ortho told us to reposition it as needed (especially after naps). If it twisted excessively we were to come back for a readjustment ASAP. I'd stay in contact with your ortho and request more adjustments or possibly a new band. It is possible to get a second opinion from another ortho in the office where you go? Guest guest
Dear Holly - our little girl was 5 mo also - now 24 months and head looks great - if you can get through this period of adjustment then I think all will be well - her head was 14.8 mm off and now is within normal - 3 was the measure at 20 months.
