Good question. Its kinda like, " knee high by 4th of july(an old farm

measurement referring to corn height), but who knees??LOL.I'm nervous

after reading your post because Tyler's stools are NEVER hard, always

at least alittle greasy, and ALWAYS foul, its just a matter of to

what degree. My food group chart shows fruits and veggies get no

enzymes.I'm only aware of one way to find out if you're taking the

right # of enzymes...trial and error, and its usually more errors for

me than anything else LOL.Would love to get some feedback on your

ques, and maybe if someone has a word of advice for my cfers never-

smelling-like-roses-rump(LOL)

Good luck to both of us on this one, eh?

Hi Val,

I used to have the same problems until the dietician told me these points:

takes Creon which can absorb 6 grams of fat per enzyme so I basically

try and work out how much fat is in his food, if it is prepackaged it will say

how many grams on the packet and if not just take a wild guess. If I am not

sure I always give 1/2 and enzyme extra as this wont really do them any harm.

And also an enzyme is only effective for 1/2 and hour so if your son is a slow

eater (goodness knows mine is!!!), give half the dose at the start of the meal

and half in the middle of it!! Apparently if they are having too many enzymes

they will come out the other end and give them a rash on their backside so watch

out for this. I have found that s poo doesnt really look very oily but

it really smells different to normal if he is malabsorbing, so if it really

stinks he probably needs more enzymes. Our doc said that they have a standard

amount of enzymes that are recommended but some children

do need more than the standard amount so keep that in mind as well. Hope all

this helps, have a good new year.

HI!!!

I am for a long time wanting to ask some questions about

enzimes...but usually I am too lazy to think in english...but I

decided to do it this year...

First I have a question of what is a snack...I mean...the GI doc

said to give 1 creon 5 w/ snack and 2 w/ meals....So I give 2 creons

3 times a day and the rest 3 times 1....well...sometimes his snacks

are like a lot of cheese pizza and a 5 oz bottle...I give him just 1

cap than...and since his stools a really hard I don't think it is

wrong...but then I was thinking.....for lunch he eats sometimes just

veggies and fruits...comparing w/ pizza and the bottle I would think

that just 1 cap would be ok...what do u think??

....well...he was taking just 1 cap for each meal when he was about 4

months...one day I thought he had oil stools, more bowel movement

that day and softer, we call the GI doc and they told us to give 1.5

cap...later...when he was about 8 months I thought he had oil stools

again...so we gave 2 caps...at about 10 months I thought it

again...and the nurse at call told us to give 2.5 w/ every

meal....well at the next appointment the doc said he was taking too

much enzimes and what I thought it was oil/soft stools was just

something that he ate ( probably carrots and sweet potato coz of the

color)...So I was thinking that maybe the right amount of enzimes

would be 1 caps even w/ his meal. what do u think?? there is any

test the doc can do to see if he is taking too many enzimes??

last question....I give him the enzime before his meal...and so he

will eat for 1 hour or a little bit more...he eats a lot,

remember...is it ok?? He has hard stools so I think the enzimes are

working for the whole time.

.....last question...ok...I said that before :)

Now I know he's never had grease stools...but if he has one how will

I know?? The doc said it smells really strong. Is it really

different from the normal bad stool smell?? Any tip of how to know

one when I see it??

sorry for the long post

I wish a HAPPY NEW YEAR to everybody...thanks for all the help u all

gave to me these last 2 months...love u all!!!

And all my prayers to Becki, Savannah and Natalia.

We were told by my daughter's GI doc that if any food contains protein, even if

there is no fat, you should still give enzymes, but in a much smaller amount.

So if Piper had some fruit, I will give her one Creon 5, where with her normal

feed, she gets 4 Creon 10's. Hope that this helps: )!!!
