Guest guest
This diet is not easy & being so careful it would be infuriating to me for someone to do something like that, especially after having been giving specific instructions otherwise. I'm sorry that had to happen. I like the t-shirt idea; I'll take 4 in various sizes LOL. Michele SCD+4 kiddos 3-1/2 weeks EPV/CFS, ASD, SID, Food Allergies > > OK. Can I just say that I am really ticked off? I put iel back on intro yesterday and today to see how it might help with softer stools recently and some irritability. Yesterday, we were strictly intro. This morning, my husband took iel to ot. When he brought iel home, I find out that the ot had given iel some sort of Gerber first stages dried apples because he had a fit when she pulled out the cooked carrots that I'd sent with him for snack time with her. He always does a snack at ot because she likes to work on eating issues. She sabatoged all of what I did yesterday. We had one infraction when he first started going to ot, and then we explained to her the diet was not gfcf. We told her that he was never to have anything that we didn't send with him. I am so mad. I did call to talk to her about it, and she was very apologetic. She said that she checked the label, and the only ingredient listed was dried apples...not to mention that he can't even have dried fruit yet. I explained to her that he just cannot be given anything that I do not send with him. I think I will start having iel wear the Caution! Don't feed me anything that didn't come from home. " T-shirt whenever we leave the house. Man, I'm mad. People just don't get it. > Meleah scd 05/06(except that everyone keeps ruining it) > > >

Guest guest
Dear Meleah, Until people realize how sick these little people are, they are not going to get it. WE can hope that 2 decades from now that they awaken to the power of diet and it's healing abilities. But today...the medical community is truly in the dark with blind folders on. Most don't even realize that ASD kids have a intestinal problem. This diet may have been invented in the 30's but it is not understood by most. It truly baffles the lay person. Many think that we are just fanatic and a bit nuts. This is how they justify feeding our kids things that they assume would be safe. This is my experience with family and most of the medical community. Heck even our DAN! (defeat autism now doctor) doesn't understand how SCD works and is always trying to sabotage our success with his good intentions and suggestions. Thank God I have contacts with those who knew Elaine and keep us on the straight and narrow. I too have been very angry with people not having better consideration. Thinking that I/we where the only one hurt. But did they read the book????...no. I may have been expecting too much from them. In retrospect I regret burning these bridges. No one wants to have us over now for dinner now. Try to be firm, but understanding on their part how weird this seems to them. Talk to them as if they have " blinders " on....with no hope of those blinders coming off. From an outsider this diet is a bit outlandish. To keep it simple, I now tell people that we have " serious allergies " and we eat this way because of " medical necessity " and to never feed my kids unless we bring the food or it can put them in the hospital or ER. This scares them a bit and they don't bother to help cook or sneak things that ay be illegal. Most have even became sympathetic and a bit helpful. Plus, most have now seen Kiki in the hospital....so this validates what I am warning about. They have learned that we are not joking around here. Heck even our DAN! has learned a lesson or two about ASD kids because of me! lol!!! Sincerely, Antoinette cd mom to Kiki-2 autistic, possible IBD; Crohns/UC and CD SCD 2/

I say certain starches and sugars are so indigestible that they can really have an adverse effect and it's hard to understand because the general poulation can tolerate these foods. I add that it is possible the restricted foods may be eaten again someday, but it would be harmful just now and we are depending on our friends and family to help us stay on track. I assure the o/p they would be very surprised at the number of tasty foods and even desserts and confections are on the diet. Carol F. Guest guest
Regarding the T-shirt, I know that you can buy them...and they'd probably last longer. I have a friend who gave me some iron-on printer paper from Avory. She made up a caution sign in Word and emailed it to me. I just printed it out on the iron-on printer paper that she sent me, and followed the directions for adhering it to a shirt. I used a plain white undershirt on my older son's. It will fit nicely over winter sweatshirts. This is my solution for having something right now. Guest guest
I can easily make a note that says that iel is to be given no food or drink...except water...that has not come with him. What would I give for the reason? Just a generic " special diet " ?
