Liz, Gosh you deserve a slumper. Last night sounded awful, I can see why you

want to veg out today. You take good care and rest. We can't have anything

happen to our " Wheezy Wizz " . LOL

You are in my thoughts and hope the sand storms subside.

Thanks - and Glenda too! Today the winds

have subsided, one of the trees in the garden was

severly damaged, but we think it will survive. I am

already feeling a bit better, and Milla, having caused

the crisis, is full of beans!!Lol

Anyway, we won't be here long, off to Jeddah at the

end of the week then next week TANZANIA!!! It will be

our second trip there, hopefully we will coincide with

the migration of the wildebeest and zebra. Lana and

Reem and I are just praying we don't meet any

ELEPHANTS as we are ALL scared of being charged. I

still haven't got my antimalarial meds sorted, can you

believe Plaquenil is not enough, as the wretched

mosquitoes are resistant to it!! I am checking that

doxycycline isOK with my other meds... (as if I

weren't taking enough already!) Take care, love Liz

Hi Liz :-)

I've lost track of the recent posts, but it seems that you've been

through some trials and difficulties? I hope all is better now.

You mentioned possibly using doxycycline as a mosquito/malaria

treatment. I learned about this option (instead of Plaquenil) from a

friend with scleroderma. She is doing very well and regularly goes

to the tropics on church sponsored missions with her husband and uses

doxycycline not only for the malaria prevention, but also to treat

the scleroderma. She's been taking doxycycline continuously for five

years now and can hardly believe she has scleroderma any more.

You might need to be aware of a few things regarding doxycycline. It

can cause quite an upset stomach for many people and taking it with

food helps a lot. I don't think you are supposed to take it with

milk, cheese or other dairy products, or vitamin c, as these things

inhibit its effectiveness.

Also, people who are taking the doxycycline as part of the antibiotic

protocol for rheumatic diseases ususally report some initial aches,

pains and temporary worsening of their symptoms...we've mentioned the

Herxheimer Reaction and this is usually what happens with the

doxycycline, too. So....if you can start taking it right away to

maybe get past the first part, you'll hopefully be better off. Some

people have to reduce their dosage initially, but I don't know if

that would still protect you against the mosquitos.

In any case, just know that I'm thinking of you and hoping all will

go well and that you'll have a great time :-)

Take care and hugs,

Connie H
