Guest guest
We've been SCD for 4 weeks now & they are still quite hungry, although not as bad as they were in the beginning, so I guess they're adjusting a bit. I can understand as I still find it hard to have enough food around! Guest guest
The constant hunger is very common in the beginning. <<I plan to puree some and start adding them to his meat patties.>> VERY good idea. <<Should I start using some nutbutter to make some muffins for him? Would that help him feel more full?>> That would be good, too. The fat and protein in nut butters would help curb hunger. Don't start out with peanut butter or cashew butter, though. Try making your own pecan butter..... process pecans in a food processer, adding a bit of oil to help make a smooth " butter " . Pecans are usually tolerated well. Try smoothies.... with a homemade coconut milk base, or yogurt base, add ripe banana... and then things like cooked fruit chunks that you have frozen (the cooked peaches, mangos, apples that you are already using would be fine). To this, you would be surprised at what you can sneak in.... a little pureed squash, he would never know.... if there's already peaches in there. Avocado is a GREAT food... you can use it without cooking first, as long as it's nice and ripe. He may balk at the green color, but start with small amounts. The higher fat content makes it very satisfying... and it's a very healthy fat. patti Constantly Hungry We started SCD a week ago, and the past 2-3 days my son has been constantly hungry. He is eating twice as much food as he usually does. I can hardly keep enough food made for him. How long does this stage last before he stabalizes and starts to eat a regular amount of food? I am feeding him meat patties, squash and egg cupcakes, cooked apple and peaches and mango, 1/2 cup goat yogurt and ripe bananas. I haven't been able to get him to eat any vegetables by themselves, and I plan to puree some and start adding them to his meat patties. Should I start using some nutbutter to make some muffins for him? Would that help him feel more full? I feel like he is eating too much fruit and meat, but I don't have much else to give him. I don't want to get into giving him too many nut muffins either. Debbie, mom to Carson 4, SCD 10/
Guest guest
I know what you mean. I caught Zack spooning homemade applesauce right out of the bowl in the refridgerator last night. He will eat a pound of what I call " burger bites " at a time if I don't hide them away in the back of the fridge. My little skinny line backer!!! We have been on this about a week too. le
Guest guest
The veracious appetite could last for a couple of weeks. His body is expending a whole lot of energy in ridding itself of these bad bacteria that have been hording all of his nutrients. He's also probably just absorbing so much nutrition right now that he previously had not been able to do. I have read somewhere about some kids gaining several pounds and growing several inches just in a couple of months on scd. As long as he is eating some fruit, he should be OK. Try to sneak some vegies in somewhere. I personally wouldn't start nut butter just yet. Remember to only introduce a couple of new foods each week. Go very slowly to allow his body to heal, and tell you what it can and cannot handle. Meleah Constantly Hungry > We started SCD a week ago, and the past 2-3 days my son has been > constantly hungry. Guest guest
Dear Debbie, This happened to us too. And yes they do grow well once the intestines are working well. Kiki may be having a flare right now, and loosing weight...but on SCD she is not 36 1/4 inches tall! The first three months of SCD she gained 3 pounds! We even have to cut her hair and nails. Proof she is better. Now we just need to get her back on track, so she can gain it back. Be careful not to " jump " to advanced foods during this time. It is easy when they are hungry. Beleive me. But you will pay the price. We learned the hard way. In order to statisfy our hunger we still eat 6-8 times a day. Three large meals and we graze the rest of the day.
