Guest guest
Sonya Did your doctor put you on a special diet. My doctor has me on a 40-50gram fat diet. There are alot of no-no's. One of the ones that is especially hard for me is the desserts. I love chocolate. I ate some brownies yesterday and a few snack size snickers. I started feeling nauseous last night and hurting more than usual. I went to get my monthly labs today before my appt. on Monday and the doctor called me to tell me my Lipase was high. She said it looked like I was starting another attack and told me to start a clear liquid diet. I know better and so do all my coworkers. The got on me big time. It is back to jello, diet soda, and soup. Also how much enzymes does your doctor have you on? My regular GI had me take only 1 Lipram-CR10 before each meal. When I went to my NEW GI doctor who specialized in ERCP therapy and treatment of pancreatitis he said that I wasn't taking enough and he put me on 4 lipram cr-10 before meals and 3 with snacks. It made a total difference. Have you tried keeping a food journal? When I was 1st diagnosed I started one and every time I ate something I would record how I felt or how it affected me. My pancreatitis is due to alcohol abuse. From the time I was 17 to 29 I drank alot on weekends. In 1995 I worked as a stripper (did this because I was divorced raising 2 kids and my regular job only paid $6.00/hr. I had two surgeries in 6months and my medical bill were in the thousands. I thought that if I drank first to get a buzz that I could feel more relaxed in stripping. Soon I needed more alcohol and more. When I quit the job I was drinking a fifth of vodka a night. I would get to the bar an hour and a half before work so I could drink my vodka. My working hours were 6pm to 4am. My kids were very young at the time. I quit in 1998 and got married. After that I didn't drink except socially. Because of the drinking in the past even though I no longer drank that much the doctor said my pancreatitis is caused by alcohol. My son is now 17 and my daughter is 14. I am honest with my son and tell him that if he drinks he could end up like me with pancreatitis. He has seen me go through this since the beginning. Don't let yourself get down. I did at first and was very depressed. I thought me life was over. It isn't. I am just happy to get through the day without pain. I only worry about today not tomorrow or the next.
