Guest guest
We are all pretty excited at our house. We found out that Traci's wish will be granted. It took may talks and lots of thinking but Traci came up with her wish all on her own. First she made a list all the things she would. Then we categorized them. Crossed some out and added more. The top three were A bedroom makeover, horse back riding lesson(for 1 year) and a Lap-Top computer. She did not want to go to Disney World, we live in Florida and have been there 5 or 6 times. Anything that took flying was out because Dad is petrified and has passed this fear onto his daughter. The horse back riding lesson were crossed out first because I told her that if she got it, she would have to give up gymnastics because Mom is stretched thin enough already. And the bedroom was out because she couldn't come up with one theme that would fit her personality. Decisions decisions! The laptop computer won, because she can take it to the hospital, in the car and sit on the couch. Of course it had to have a CD/DVD and wireless modem. Her uncle has one and she investigated it thoroughly. Now we are waiting for the phone call to say it is all set up. She is due to go in the hospital soon so we are keeping our fingers crossed. Guest guest
I was wondering how long it took to find out you were eligible. We've been waiting 5 weeks and haven't heard anything. We're not in a hurry, but I just would like to know how long it should take. Thanks, Steph, mom to 7-yr-old boy wcf > We are all pretty excited at our house. Guest guest
I'm curious where on earth you live?? My grandaughter just got granted her wish and it has gone through just fine. A lovely couple came to their home after mom submitted her name and it is going smoothly! Her wish of couse DISNEYLAND! What else would an eight year old wish for? Debbie(Kati's gram) make a wish I've been having a very frustrating time with make a wish, and I was hoping to get some advice. I submitted my son's name in Sept, after he got out of the hospital. They said they should know in about 3 weeks if he was eligible. They finally said he was eligible 9 weeks later, just before Thanksgiving. They said they would contact us to meet him after the holidays. At the end of Jan. I emailed them again and asked about how long it would be. They said before the beginning of March. At that time, they also said the reason it was taking so long is that we live too far away (apparently 30 minutes from their office is too far for anyone to drive). I'm really upset because I waited to tell my son that I had submitted his name until he was approved, just so he wouldn't be let down, but now it's been 3.5 months since the approval, and that's a long time when you're 7. I'm also upset because I feel like I shouldn't be doing this, that he's going to be fine, even though I know that's not really realistic. I'm so torn, and the wait is making me feel worse. Guest guest
I just wanted to let you all know that Josh 10 wcf had his wish last year. He wished to be captain of a cruise ship. We sent MAW photos and a thank you letter. Well, so far Josh's story and picture have been in the Western Mass MAW Newsletter called the well wisher, the State wide News letter and now he is going to be featured in the MAW Annual report. We are so excited. I just feel it is such a good way to bring CF to the attention of people who already so generously give to charity. Maybe their next donation will be to the CFF because of the cute boys (I know I am his mother and all, but hey MAW wanted him) picture they saw. We had a wonderful experience with MAW and we live about 1 1/2 hours from the closest office. They have volunteers in our area that cover our county. They even have a Christmas party each year and give the MAW kids and their siblings great gifts. I couldn't say enough about our wish experience. Good luck with yours. Mom to Josh 10 wcf & Crohn's and 5 nocf but wants to do therapy for his brother and knows all about and when his brother needs his meds. Guest guest
Hi Steph, I am sorry to hear that MAW is making thisso frustrating. Theo only thing I could think of would be to contact the national office. We contacted MAW in October, three weeks later we got a call and two reps came to our house. We filled out the paperwork, but my husband was not home so they had to come back and get his signature. Due to scheduling conflicts, they we all finally got together two weeks ago. It also took that long for my daughter to make up her mind on what she wanted to wish for. So now her wish is in writing and I heard from our MAW person on Monday and shesaid that she has tosend it to national and I needed to pick out some dates for when we can go. HOwever, I wanted to address your conerns about calling them in the first place. I know exactly how you feel! My husband did not want to beleive that was sick enough to be entitled to MAW. I told him the story of my bestfirend's nephew. Hewas diagnosed with leukemia when he was 5. His wish was to meet the Pope. Well, he got his wish and 5 years later, the leukemia is now gone. My husband had the notion that a child had to be on their deathbed to be eligible. I also felt guilty for asking for something so big. I posted my concerns here and boy did I get alot of responses. Everyone here told me not to feel guilty, that our kids truly deserve something like this. Think of everything that they have do go through or have gone through compared to other " healthy " kids. That is why MAW is there. To tell you thetruth, I am very grateful for what they do! Sorry to ramble, I sure hope it gets worked out so your experience is not a nightmare! e mom to 10 wcf, Ian 13 nocf
