I know this is hard for some to understand. Guest guest
My youngest son had a celiac test and tested negative for it, yet he fit the classic portrait of a person with celiac disease per Dr. Hass' research and experience. He grew from 1/05 age 4 wearing 24 month old clothes on scd to 1/06 age 5, wearing 4t-5t clothes. Failure to thrive and one year scd grew that much. Still, his test was negative, and as my doctor explained to me, the tests are not 100% and it is likely he didn't have much gluten in his diet then. My doctor said for all of us to be tested for celiac we would need to go off diet for two weeks, and also go off digestive enzymes. The effects of gluten can remain in our systems for 6 months, I kid you not. So I said no thanks. How we feel is more important and more definitive than a test result. We did this diet because we felt bad, looked bad, were sick, and my son's were mute, had stomach pain, etc. Summer --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! When I started Glenn of gf-etc we had a gluten/gliaden screen done only two weeks in. Negative result. Both his ped and I thought that was bogus as he went from a kid with 7+ loose " fluffy " poops per day to 4 better formed ones. To test accurately, the gluten challenge must be at least 8 weeks (with no enzymes or digestive aids). In our case, no freakin' way. If you need to " see " results on paper (for ins purposes?) there may be other things you could do. -christine
Guest guest
I was encouraged by our nutrition doctor to get our daughter tested for celiac(scd 3yrs now). The specialists at the hospital told us we had to go back on a standard diet for 4 months before they could run any blood tests.(we decided not to bother)
