Peace Torsten, dad of Fiona 6wcf and Sebastian 5months wocf e-mail: torstenkrafft@... Chiron Corporation (Nasdaq: CHIR) today announced funding for the establishment of the TOBI Foundation, an independent non-profit foundation dedicated to increasing access to TOBI® (tobramycin solution for inhalation) for uninsured and underinsured people with cystic fibrosis (CF) chronically infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the most common type of bacterial lung infection in people with CF. Officially launching during the 17th Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC) in Anaheim, Calif., from October 16-19, the foundation will issue vouchers for TOBI to eligible families who have either no health insurance or prohibitively high co-payments through their prescription drug coverage. " Many children and young adults with CF depend on TOBI to help control the dangerous lung infections that can inflame and cause the deterioration of their lungs over time, " said J. Beall, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. " By making this medication more accessible to the uninsured and the underinsured, the financial burden faced by people with CF and their families is lessened, and they are able to reduce out-of-pocket expenses. While the CF Foundation continues its pursuit of new therapies to treat and cure CF, we are glad that programs such as this one have been put in place to make living with CF more manageable. " " The TOBI Foundation was established because Chiron is aware of the financial challenges facing many CF patients and their families, " said Craig Wheeler, president of Chiron BioPharmaceuticals, based in Emeryville, Calif. " Building on the existing TOBI program for uninsured families, Chiron's donation of TOBI and funding to the foundation will expand assistance to those underinsured families who are in need of this medication. " Families and professionals can learn more about the foundation and how to apply for financial assistance at www.tobifoundation.org or call 877-TOBI-4-CF. Priority Healthcare Corporation based in Lake , Fla., will evaluate eligibility and administer grants on behalf of the foundation. " Establishment of the TOBI Foundation reflects Chiron's commitment to providing a proven therapy to CF patients in need, " said D. Cosler, president and CEO of Priority Healthcare Corporation. " We are pleased to be part of this important program. " Vouchers issued under the program may be redeemed through Cystic Fibrosis Services, Inc., the national pharmacy subsidiary of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, established to provide quality pharmacy services and programs to the CF population. About the TOBI® Foundation The TOBI Foundation was established in 2003 as an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to TOBI therapy for uninsured and underinsured people with CF. The foundation receives funding from Chiron, the manufacturer of TOBI, and strives to work with other groups that are committed to CF. The foundation is governed by an independent board of directors and is operated by experienced health care professionals.
