Guest guest
wikipedia has a good article on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Bono_Copyright_Term_Extension_Act sydney haas died in 1964, so the copyright owner has the copyright until 2034 so its not in the public domain so the question would be who owns the copyright, wether its the publisher, or a descendant of the haas's or its intestate another approach is just to do extracts of the more interesting parts of the book with comments, since you are permitted to do this under copyright law " fair use " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright > > Hello. I heard back from my friend that " the easy answer is... " due to copyright extensions, etc. very little from the 1950s is in the public domain and due to some strange thing nothing new is likely to enter the public domain until the year 2019. I didn't understand exactly why, but he did seem to be recommending that I move with caution and not do anything without the full time consuming research that he thought it would take to verify that the book was truly in the public domain. > > I'd still be interested in hearing the name of the publisher and any new and relevant info that anyone else has found out if any of you have continued to work on this. I am generally short on time, as I'm sure most of you can empathize with, but I am very motivated to continue to work on this as I can find time, even if it stretches out to a very long amount of time before I get to the bottom of it. If anyone else has found out anything relevant and wants to email me privately, I'd be happy to hear from you. Since I use yahoo email, I have to browse the sender names of a ton of junk mail or delete it without looking, but I'll try to keep an eye out for " Haas " in the subject lines in that folder and in the inbox folder. > > Thanks, > Sheril > > > --------------------------------- > Stay in the know. Guest guest
" Was there any decision about his book and whether it can be reprinted or not? " Pearl, We do not have proof of whether the book is still under copyright protection. We have to assume that it is until we have proven for certain that it is not. It is being researched, but it takes time. Jody mom to -7 and -10 SCD 1/
