Guest guest
So sorry to hear about the craziness. My first suggestion would be (if this is possible) to keep your son wcf out of day care. They just breed illness and infection. Second, have you tried tilting his crib? We do that when my 30 month old gets congested and it seems to help a bit. Third, I know these are supposedly off limits, but we use an ultrasonic humidifier when he is super congested. We use boiled water only and clean the humidifier every day with disinfectant. We run it only when he is sleeping and then air the room out when he isn't in there. And Fourth, is he on any anti- histimines? My son is on Zyrtec and it helps dry out the mucus. We have to be extra sure that we keep him super hydrated. I hope this helps!! > Hello everyone, > > Here is where we are at: My son, , is 20 months old. Guest guest
Thanks for your suggestions, I have taken a leave from work until the new year. So they are out of day care for now. We hope to have a nanny in place by then. I will try tilting the crib, I don't know why I didn't think of that before, I have done it with my first born when he was congested. As for the humidifier, is it a warm or cool air one? I know they say they aren't to be used with CFer's but it sounds like you are taking all the right precautions. Where do you live? Can you get Zyrtec at the drug store or do you need a prescription? We live in Canada. Tks so much, I'll try some of your ideas. Cheryl Re: Advise PLEASE!! So sorry to hear about the craziness. Guest guest
Have you tried a vapor bath? and makes one that I am currently using for 's cold. It does help reduce some of the congestion. Just try to keep him from really splashing a whole lot (not really a problem with the J & J baby stuff though) We are using it right before bedtime. Also, her CF clinic put her on nasal spray/ nose drops to help throughout the day. Good Luck! Mom of 5 with CF ( and currently a cold!) Advise PLEASE!! Hello everyone, Here is where we are at: My son, , is 20 months old. He started full time day care at the beginning of Sept. (with his 3 yr. Old brother) He was there, I'd say probably 3 days in total, got sick right away, double ear infection, strep throat, congested chest. He had never been in day care before this time. Then my middle son got the stomach flu, of course, Matty caught it, runny runny poops for a few days. He has had a runny nose probably throughout the last 6 weeks on and off. Well, just last week, near the end of the week, his cough started. The worst that we have ever heard. By Saturday morning, I was really worried. Called the hospital where our clinic is, and they said bring him in for assessment. He had a fever, 38.8. Found out he had a right ear infection. Did a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia, doctors said that it clear of that but looked congested, especially on the right side. He was put on Cephlex . They took a sputum sample to check for bacteria and sent us home. 48 hours later is today. He is not much better , not any worse. Called them again, the culture is not back yet. I guess they don't want him at the hospital unless absolutely necessary. But they don't hear his cough at night, he is gagging. We are all sleep deprived. Help...feeling so frustrated and don't know what to do. Cheryl, mom to 3 boys, Zac 7 yrs. wocf, Jake 3 yrs. wocf, 20 mo wcf
Guest guest
> Hello everyone, Sorry to hear your son is not feeling well. Does he have nasal congestion or is it just in his chest. Does he do a neb. with Pulmozyme? Does he wake up from coughing or sleep through it? Has he spit up any of the mucous? What did the dr.s say about the wheezing? Typically, when my son has a continuous cough with a wheeze that the increased bronchodialator and purlmicort breathing treatments aren't helping, he goes on a short does of a steroid which usually helps until the antibiotic can kick in. My son has allergy and asthma components and regularly takes singulair and zyrtech which has def. helped. He was very sick, like your describe from dx. at 18 mos. and until about 4. Now with his maintenance med's and our being able to read his symptoms and treat sooner than we did before, he seems not to be sick constantly. However, he still has not yet had a cold stay a cold. If you son has a lot of nasal congestion, a nighttime bath to help the secretions move and saline nose drops do help. If his sinuses are clogged, we have had help from flonase. It is so difficult to hear them and our hearts ache for them. I hope he feels better soon and I hope some of our experiences can lend some help to you and your family. Best Wishes! Jo Ann, Mom to , 5 w/ CF and Tommy, 8 no CF.>
