Guest guest
Hi all: Was doing some reading today on the above and discovered that this type of chronic pancreatitis can be related to an autoimmune disorder in and of itself and also can be related to other autoimmune disorders such as Schogren's Disease. The interesting part I found was that there has apparently been some research that links this sort of CP with a salivary gland disorder as well. I'll have to find out the exact particulars of that....has anyone ever heard of that? I have had what I thought was a swollen lymph node in my neck for the longest time and only just mentioned it to the gastro doc yesterday. He felt my neck and said that it was a salivary gland and didn't seem worried about it. Anyway, in my usual long-winded way, just wondering if anyone has any info on the above. thanks
Guest guest
Interesting concept. Not heard of it, now you have me curious. When I get time, I will look that up. I doubt that your GI would really know unless he is in a large teaching or reseach hospital. The lymph gland thing is common, thus they blow alot of those things off. Do you ever get fever blisters when you hve an enlarged lymph node ? That is common as well. Guest guest
Yes it is an interesting concept.....apparently first discovered as it were in Japan. As far as the fever blisters go, I do get them, but haven't really noticed a correlation between that and the enlarged gland. The GI doc said it was a salivary gland though and that was also mentioned in the article that I read, something about the salivary glands and a connection with this autoimmune chronic pancreatitis. Do a google search and you will find it..... thanks!! > Interesting concept. Not heard of it, now you have me curious. When I get time, I will look that up. Guest guest
I actually have to deal with my saliva glands getting big and swollen after an acute attack of pancreatitis. My Doctor told me it was because I get dehydrated. I am sure it has something to do with it. I can tell my saliva glands are angry...usually about 48-72 hours after an acute attack. I buy a package of Warheads candies (sour!)and that helps the flow of saliva to get the blockage out. If I don't, I look like a chipmunk...and oh, it hurts! The Warheads usually save me from antibiotics, so I am happy. I didn't realize that this could be an autoimmune disorder...interesting. I will have to read some more on this. Thanks for bringing up the topic. I have read enough to realize that I am not completely crazy, that it does happen-although rare. Yet another side effect of a horrible problem to have to deal with. Guest guest
The Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook has some information on this. You can get autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis with that as well, and celiac and Sjogren's are also linked. You may want to inter-libary loan the New Sjogren's Syndrome handbook (my copy is in Alaska at the moment) If you go to http://dry.org/welcome.html there may be something... Margaret Am J Surg. 1984 Jun;147(6):822-6. Related Articles, Links Sclerosing cholangitis, chronic pancreatitis, and Sjogren's syndrome: a syndrome complex. Montefusco PP, Geiss AC, Bronzo RL, Randall S, Kahn E, McKinley MJ. The disease complex of chronic pancreatitis, sclerosing cholangitis, and Sjogren's syndrome seems to be a well-defined entity with an autoimmune cause similar to that which occurs in primary biliary cirrhosis. Treatment depends on the component of primary sclerosing cholangitis and, more particularly, on the degree of extrahepatic involvement. > > > Hi all: Was doing some reading today on the above and discovered > > that this type of chronic pancreatitis can be related to an > > autoimmune disorder in and of itself and also can be related to > > other autoimmune disorders such as Schogren's Disease.
