Guest guest
Tomorrow is dd's 9th bd party, and I hope some of the things we have planned with help others. I have to say that the food-related birthday issues are some of the most difficult things we have encountered since going SCD.... Anyway, first we planned a party that would not be food oriented (like last year's tea party). We thought of taking the kids to a movie, and then dd decided that a spa party would be fun. So while the girls are sitting with their mud masks on and my sister and I are painting fingernails, we will be serving them smoothies. The other food will be " make your own " skewers of fruit kebabs (Oy. I spent $35 tonight on out-of-season fruit like blakcberries, star fruit and raspberries....), a frozen yogurt " cake " (I froze a layer of strawberry frozen yogurt on the bottom of a cake-pan lined w. wax paper, put a layer of pureed frozen raspberries over this, then put a layer of frozen raspberry yogurt on the top. Flip out of pan to serve. While not exactly the store-bought ice cream cake from dd's favorite parlor, it will have to do!), and the SCD date and nut cake that was highly recommended on here. I also made tie-dye sorbet to put in punch (mixed fruit juice w. plain seltzer). The sorbet is really neat: I used a Champion juicer and mixed about 3/4 frozen mangos w. 1/4 fr. raspberries. Do the raspberries in the middle of your " juicing " , and then, at the end, swirl the colors around. It comes out very pretty! Ellen 9 y/o dd dx'ed w. Crohn's.
