The farmers that is okay is Farmer cheese that resembles cottage cheese except it isn't as moist. Guest guest
I've not seen May-Bud Farmer's Cheese nor can I find a website for Churny Company... but, according to Elaine Gottschall, and I quote, " There are two types of cheese called farmers cheese. One is like dry curd cottage cheese, and the other is similar in consistency to Brick or Monterey Jack. The Farmer's cheese that is similar to Brick or Monterey Jack, is not legal. " See: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/farmers_chee se.htm If you want to check out a " legal " brand of Farmer's Cheese go to: http://www.friendshipdairies.com/products/info_farmer.shtml and http://www.friendshipdairies.com/products/farmerhoop_story.shtml You'll see that the ingredients list is almost identical: Cultured Pasteurized Grade A Skim Milk, Cream and Salt. I've purchased this brand and it does " crumble " . So, I say, take out the cheese you found, and compare it to Monterey Jack... if similiar to Monterey Jack then it is illegal, and if not... enjoy :-) PS - I just did my own research on DCCC because I had similar questions about what makes DCCC " legal " . IF I'M WRONG, someone PLEASE correct me. Belmont 10 yrs.
