Guest guest
For 2 years, I had been having severe intermittent chest pains. The doctors did several tests on my heart and GI tract, but not my gall bladder. Last Feb. I ended up in the hospital in the worst pain in my life. They said my gall bladder was full of stones and I had acute pancreatitis, my lipase and amylase were both over 15000, I had a real high white count. The surgeon wanted to wait for an ERCPT before taking out my gall bladder. The hospitals ERCPT machine was broke and I was deteriorating so they went ahead on a Sunday night and took my gall bladder. After surgery, they put me in intensive care for 3 days then back to a regular bed it took about two weeks for my blood work to normalize, except for a high white count. During this time, I was NPO getting Dilaudid and Cipro among others IV. After 2 weeks in the hospital, I had so much trouble they put in Picc line, and I got them to put me on home health care, with TPN and IV Cipro. This lasted two weeks. Then I eased back in to food. But I continued to have pain and I would vomit bile almost daily. This lasted 12 weeks. During which time they did a CT scan every three weeks all of which showed my pancreas inflamed and angry, as my doctor would put it. At 20 weeks, MY doctor put me back in the hospital NPO on TPN. At the end of one week they did an MRCP, the MRCP said everything was normal and the pancreas showed no damage. So I was released and 2 weeks later, I returned to work. For six weeks I felt great I was going to the gym, watching what I ate, and taking it easy. Then one night after dinner, it hit the same excruciating pain. I went to the ER and both amylase and lipase were above 15000 again one week NPO and they did another MRCP once again the test showed normal. They released me but the pain and nausea persisted 3 weeks later the nausea would not go away I heaved bile for 18 hours and ended up in the Hospital again, by now I have hardly any veins left and they put in another Picc line. They did an MRCP the day I was admitted and took blood the test were both normal and I was told it was not pancreatitis this time. Now I am home again constantly nauseous taking Phenergan IV for nausea in my PICC line. I still have pain and some times I feel like I am having small acute pancreatic attacks. I can't work and I am getting ready to run out of benefits. The doctors say they do not know what is wrong with me and that it can't all be my pancreas because my blood work is normal. I would like some advice from any body going thru the same thing. What should I be asking my doctors? Thanks in advance Matt
