Guest guest
does he eat eggs? My 23 mos ASD son is also a skinny kid, 23 lbs, but has been scd for four weeks and is much happier now. While he is not yet packing on the pounds, there is a noticeable difference in his attitdue and stools. He did loose about 1 lbs when we started the diet and i'm not sure if its back on yet. He did not have constant diareea, but rather large loose stools once a day or once every other day, so he was only on the intro diet for one day, but after about four days he got used to eggs every morning for breakfast. I cook them over hard in coconut oil and salt and then slice them into little bite size squares. Mine is also GFCF so we have eliminated even more items and don't yet use the cheese or curd. Once we started the muffins on day four things got easier. He loves the " scruptios muffin suprise " found on the scddiet website. It is cubed almond muffins, with half a bananna honey and peanut butter heated up and then mixed together to form a hot cereal type consistancy. He also love peanut butter balls which I use to sneak in supplements. But it still seems most of his calories come from apple cider right now, but who cares its working. When you look at what other children our kids age eat, its not that bad. My sisters non ASD 3 yo twins came over recently and the whole time they were here they had nothing but milk and like two bits of some food matter, but they are fine. Don't worry too much about not getting the quantity, he will get hungry, and the food will start to look good. Wait him out. As for enzymes I use No-Fenol and Peptizyse and my son can't function without them. He is phenol sensitive, and even after SCD for four weeks, If I miss the enzymes, hes a mess. Hope this helps. sarah
Guest guest
hi sarah, where is the peanut butter ball recipe from??? i found this when i was first researching the diet and have since not managed to come across it again? have you been on the diet for 4 weeks? what stage are you upto at the moment? does your little one have gut issues like leaky gut? my daughter is also sensitive to phenols but copes fine with enzymes. we are doing the diet for leaky gut and multiple food issues and to kill all the bad bugs (candida / strep / clostridia) - just hoping the diet will do this as i dont hear many people talking about treating these things??? to add calories, i add good fat to everything after its been cooked. i add a tbl of oil to her soup before serving. i make meatballs or sausages and then put a tsp of oil before serving. i cook eggs like you, in a tbl of coconut oil and also use it as my 'butter' on pancakes and muffins. we use all cold pressed organic oils - macadamia oil, avocado oil and olive - and since adding this variety to her diet she is gaining weight which is exciting! would love to hear about your SCD experience and what you aim to treat with this diet... thanks in advance! roweena x > does he eat eggs? Guest guest
If you are new you may want to avoid the peanut butter for much, much longer. It spelled nothing but disaster for us. At seven months we still can not tolerate it without regression, both GI and behavioral. Antoinette (scd 2/06)
Guest guest
I'm going to say this again..... and again.... Raisins are NOT part of the intro diet. Nothing but juice and raisins is not SCD intro.... and is NOT recommended by any of us here that are trying our best to moderate the list and give guidance and support. If you're still using the Nystatin with sugar in it, he is not really on SCD at all. You may want to move on..... But... MY opinion is.... you WOULD find that he would begin to eat some of the new foods, accepting things that you never expected him to, IF you actually did SCD correctly.... which means, get ALL the illegals out.... and stop using raisins. These are NOT a beginner food. If you started all over with the true intro diet.... and there are all kinds of ideas for ASD/SCD intro on the pecanbread.com website.... as well as tricks for picky eaters in the " Overcoming Difficulties " section, you would probably find much greater success. At this point, until you are prepared to start the diet correctly, it is my opinion that you are doing more harm than good.... and that he will not make the progress you were wanting.... and you may end up quitting and saying " SCD didn't work " . But, you need to fully undertand that you aren't really doing SCD right now. As long as he's getting the sugar in the Nystatin .... and I have to say, it just baffles me WHY they even PUT sugar in Nystatin, when it's supposed to be a yeast killer. Maybe that explains why it often doesn't WORK..... but anyway, as long as he's getting that sugar, you probably won't get anywhere. I can't answer the questions about all the DAN treatments you want to know about. The powdered goat milk is okay to use to make SCD yogurt.... as long as you reconsitute it properly.... no extra milk powder added to make it " thicker " , for example. The Vance's stuff is basically potato based.... and is SCD illegal. Patti Day 2 of intro diet for 2 1/2 yr old. Not going well! Is a DAN doctor necessary? my 2 1/2 yr old did not eat anything today but a few raisins and his juices. his stools are surprisingly solid but he got all his calories from juice. he has lost a couple pounds in the last 2 wks down to 27# (<25% for his age). he is skin and bones. we did not force feed him today and left food on plates around the house but he was not interested. i made the cheese cookies with half of the expensive farmer's cheese and he wouldn't touch them. he can hold out forever with new foods so even going off the intro and trying the new recipes may not work. i am at a loss. Guest guest
, The probiotics you're using.... you say they are " therbiotics " ? Is that Theralac... from Therabiotics, Inc? Or Ther-Biotics Complete from Klaire Labs? If so, neither of those are SCD legal. I'm also wondering if there could be some illegal sweetener in your B-12 chewables. I've never found a chewable or sublingual tablet B-12 that didn't have illegals. I just wanted to mention those... because I think most people who've been here a while realise the importance of making sure you get all the trace bits of sugar and starch out.... for better results in the long term. Also.... just wanted to reiterate that Lara Bars are definitely NOT for beginners (I know you know that). I personally would not recommend them at all for anyone on SCD.... just my 2 cents. Guest guest
Hi mrsdeals, > my 2 1/2 yr old did not eat anything today but a few raisins and his > juices. his stools are surprisingly solid but he got all his > calories from juice. he has lost a couple pounds in the last 2 wks > down to 27# (<25% for his age). Many others have reported a small amount of weight loss at the beginning of the diet. Possible reasons: 1. the body is adapting to the change in diet 2. the child is experiencing die off and isn't as hungry (epsom salt baths and /or activated charcoal may help see http://www.pecanbread.com/badreaction.html 3. they need to eat more calorie rich food then preSCD because they need calories for regular day things but the extra calories for healing the gut. The body is doing a lot of work to get well and needs " fuel " to do it. If the child isn't getting enough they may lose a little weight. he is skin and bones. we did not > force feed him today and left food on plates around the house but he > was not interested. i made the cheese cookies with half of the > expensive farmer's cheese and he wouldn't touch them. he can hold > out forever with new foods so even going off the intro and trying > the new recipes may not work. i am at a loss. i need more > suggestions for easy fun 2 yr old friendly foods & suggestions as to > how to coax him to taste a new item. he is going to daycare tomorrow > and will starve. his behavior was so much better which leads me to > believe he may have milk sensitivities. maybe he isn't full of yeast > like i originally thought. i would be happier if i could take him > off nystatin. If the nystatin is feeding the yeast and other potential bad microbes (bacteria etc..) than you may be undoing the good of the diet. Is it very expensive to get the nystatin without sugar and other illegals. I think some pharmacies carry it that way so you may not need it specially compounded. You may have to call around to check. my twin 4 mos girls are both having very loose stools > from milk based formulas like he did as a baby. i need to know what > kind of baby formula to change them to. is there a dairy-free > formula that isn't soy based? Ask them if the May-bud is like dry curd cottage cheese or similar in consistency to Brick or Monterey Jack. The Farmer's cheese that is similar to Brick or Monterey Jack, is not legal. > is powdered goat milk from a health food store legal? You can use powdered milk that has no illegal ingredients *if* you follow the directions on the package to reconstitute it ie only add the amount of skim milk powder that is directed for a certain amount of water. Adding extra milk powder will make it illegal. > is dairy-free > milk from vancesfoods legal? I believe this is still illegal.
