Connie,

I am so sorry to hear you've actually gained weight. I know you've got to

be frustrated (I would be). Let's hope it's not a trend (just a set back).

I'm pre-op so I'm no help with any advice, but I will keep you in my

thoughts and prayers that the dial on the scales will move in the RIGHT

direction soon.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the understanding and concerned posts!! I really

appreciate it.

LOL....although my frustration did get me a phone call from Dr. Rutledge!!!

OK, OK, OK......Doc :-)

I do realize that the 6 pounds is probably fluid....that on eating what I am

eating there is no way I would gain 6 pounds in 4 days. And even looking at

the loss of 24 pounds I am right on target wt loss of where I should be at 5

weeks.

The diabetes I have had for 15 years and it will take a while to be cured

from it. It is okay to continue to take the meds I need to get the sugar

levels lower and I will continue to see this drop. I was starting to get

worried that wouldn't happen.

We also talked about the things going on inside my body that I can't

see....like lower cholesterol etc. I will be having blood work done this

Friday and will post the results when I get them.

Also, on the good side I have not had ANY pain in my feet....which was a big

problem before the surgery and is a BIG relief now. I am also starting to

exercise and feel I have more energy....so there are pluses going on too. It

is just frustrating when you want to see everything happen at once and the wt

to just drop off! I don't have a lot of patience sometimes.

The talk with Dr. R sure did help though! Thanks Dr. R for everything!!

Connie,

It is actually quite common to have weight gains during weight-loss,

with or without surgery. I am the type who can gain five or six

pounds of fluid weight overnight. When you see a gain like that, it

usually means that you will very soon see a drop in addition to the

temporary gain. As you lose weight, your fat cells will try as hard

as they can to hold on to the fat and water. It causes a lot of water

retention. Do you weigh at the same time every day. There is usually

a huge difference in your morning weight vs your evening weight.

Think about this from a logical standpoint...your scales showed a

thirty pound weight-loss which means that YOU HAVE lost thirty pounds.

Do you really think that you gained eight pounds of it back no more

than you are eating? It sounds to me like you are doing REALLY well.

I understand how frustrating it can be, though. Please hang in there.

You will see a loss in a few days, I promise.

When I dieted/exercised in the past - my worst enemy was the scale.

When you know you're doing the right things, and it doesn't show on

the darn scale...well, it's very demotivating.

When I went to my post-op clinic session (5 days post-op), I had no

weight loss. Others 4-6 days post-op all lost weight; some up to 10

lbs. This was a bit disconcerting so I asked Dr.R about it. In

turn, Dr.R asked me... Am I eating less? (Of course.)

Do I think I eat less than the supermodels? (Most likely.)

Once you really think about how much you eat (or how little), you

realize that the only way (eventually) for the weight to go is down.

Since I knew the scale could be demotivating to me, and the recovery

process is as much mental as physical, I'm only weighing myself on

the monthly anniversary dates of my surgery. I didn't want to deal

with ups/downs/plateaus. You may want to consider weighing less

frequently - it may be worth the peace of mind.

Kind regards,

Debbie

Connie-

I am pre-op, and I know that you may be discouraged, but from my point of

view you are still down 20 lbs in 5 weeks.... I only hope to be that

fortunate once i am on the other side!
