Guest guest
Hi Sherry... Figured if I would have kept the original subject line, no one would read it... When we as pre-ops or sometimes those as post-ops ask those of you who are not losing weight if you are exercising or eating " what you should " , I honestly don't think it's someone trying to " blame " you.. Actually, the blame lies in your body itself.. It's nothing you can really control but, you could maybe help it along with a little exercise and maybe some " power " foods... Exercise and some foods are known to boost your metabolism.. It may just be the thing you need.. I have always known I have a low metabolism.. I will most likely be one of the " slow losers " after I finally have my surgery.. But, I am willing to work with my body in every way possible to get healthy.. NOT saying that you aren't helping your body! Just trying to explain that we aren't *mean*... :) In my thoughts and prayers, Terri > Dear Janet, > > I couldn't agree with you more. Guest guest
Dear Terri, Thanks for your post. I don't think anyone is blaming me or anyone else for losing slowly. And of course, it is common sense to exercise and eat well to maximize weightloss. What I was referring to about " blame " is that when I am losing slowly, I already blame myself, and to have someone start asking questions about what I am or am not doing - causes me to infer that they are trying to find the cause/blame for the condition. I am sure no one means for their questions to do this, and I certainly don't think anyone who is asking is being mean. Just thought that after reading several similar posts, I would point out how it makes some of us slow losers feel - when we already feel responsible for our predicament. Thanks for being concerned and posting. Feeling more optimistic everyday - Sherry
Guest guest
Sherry, how slow are you losing? I'm still preop and hoping to go soon, but have always had a very slow metabolism, and I'm worried that I won't loose as quickly as everyone else seems to be doin.. Guest guest
Dear Trudy, My weight loss rate - 16 pounds at 5 weeks. My surgery was Aug. 10 and I can tell that I have lost more since then - just haven't weighed yet. I am waiting to do so at my next Dr. appt. on oct. 10 - but I may drop by and do it sooner just to find out. Although I have complained alot about the slow loss (I am attending a wedding in mid-Dec. and had hoped to have lost the average 70 lbs. by then), my blood sugar is nearly normal. That in itself is a lifesaving benefit of the surgery. Good luck. Sherry P.S. I am 44 years old, which may contribute to the slow metabolism.
