Guest guest
For us we're adding everything that we will eat (my husband is a picky eater) for at least 2 weeks to be sure we're /really/ okay with it. For some reason I worry that we'll add too much too soon and have setbacks. Our next grocery shopping day (I shop once every 2 weeks) is next week, so we'll move on to phase 2 foods a week from Monday. If using The Stages as a guide, we add one or two new food a week and start with very small amounts. Elaine just said to add new foods as you wish with the exception of the really advanced ones. You can use The Stages as a guide in making your food selecyion but there is not specific time to remain on each. SCD does not require you to use The Stages. Carol F. Guest guest
I'm not sure exactly what you're meaning. If you have already moved on to raw fruits and vegetables, you've moved MUCH too fast. You will need weeks... if not MONTHS on peeled and cooked veggies/fruits.... depending on the individual's symptoms. You don't really want to move on to more advanced foods until you see SIGNIFICANT improvement in symptoms, which indicates gut healing. You only started with the intro diet within this past week, right? As I recall, you started out including things that were not in the intro diet.... so you re-started the intro on Monday of this week, according to the messages I see in my inbox. Did you mean to say that you are giving each new FOOD three days? You will want to add ONE food... and observe for a day or two to see how that food was tolerated... then add another new food, with the same period to observe. Patti Phases How long is everyone giving before adding new foods (phase 1 etc)? I've been giving each phase 3 days, so far no negatives. Thanks, Tumpa Reinhardt To the world you may be one person, to one person you are the world~Anonymous
Guest guest
Hi, Yes I had Cole on the proper intro diet for two days. We have moved onto phase 2 (did phase 1 for 2 days). He never had diahrea or gassiness so it's hard to know if symptoms are improving since there are really no outward symptoms for me to see. I am intoducing foods such as cooked zuchini and giving it 2-3 days prior to adding more etc. So far no negative or positive reactions to anything. Apart from a lot of hunger ( HUGE APPETITE) for him but since he always ate veggies ( he is asking for his favorite which is brocolli but that can't be introduced until phase 3-4) and fruits and meat so it's not much of a change in his diet really. We are still on cooked, peeled fruits and veggies. So I will stay on that for atleast another 2-3 weeks. We have moved onto baked meats and nut butter. He does not drink milk so I don't have a need for the nut milk. Thanks for all the support, Re: Phases I'm not sure exactly what you're meaning. Guest guest
I'm sorry Tumpa, I have forgotten, are you doing the diet for a child with an ASD? If so, then there are still signs you can look for. Especially behaviorally. For example... We noticed improvement in speech, eye contact, and variation in the toys my son would play with within 5 days of starting the diet!. His emotions were much more stable as well. We did just fine for 9 days or so. My husband found fresh squeezed, nothing added, pulp free, orange juice for me (I love o.j.!) and I shared a bit with my son. No more than 1/4 cup or so, once time. Within hours he stopped talking again, rarely made eye contact and had emotional meltdowns. These lasted about 2-3 days, during which he took epsom salts baths and drank lots of water. The behavior problems were followed by a seriously nasty diaper that made it very clear that orange juice was the culprit. And now he's returning to where we were before the o.j. So we can see from that, that he doesn't tolerate orange juice very well. Just keep an eye on him while slowly introducing new things. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi Corin, I am doing this diet on my 5 year old non-verbal son. I will keep closer tabs on him ( I usually do with a spreadsheet rating mood, behavior, focus etc) and a notebook ( I've done this for 2.5 years now) UGH!. So far I have not noticed anything that jumps out at me but I'm not giving up yet! Thanks and I am glad to hear of the positives with your son.
